BDukes -> Chaff and Flare and Battlegroup Defense (12/29/2021 1:30:18 PM)

The way things work now, chaff and flare are part of the defensive calculations in resolving a missile hit. This protects the targeted ship, which is excellent. Now, how about untargeted ships that are nearby? The case I'm thinking about is a close escort. Surely the escorts pop countermeasures if an ASM was inbound-close even if the countermeasure shooter wasn't the target. In terms of awareness, the ships don't really know who is the intended target is just a missile is inbound. Why would they hold chaff/flare?

Would it be possible to add other ships' chaff and flares to targeted ships within 1nm of the intended target?

Mike

For what its worth. Real life you take other units into account. You don't want your chaff cloud on top, behind or in front of another unit, that with some ranges into account. Depending on C/S and wind calculations. you are right that you donn't always know for some sort of chaff, the kind you fire when you have a lock-on is only for one unit.
Not much info, I realize, would have to search in docs for more if needed.
