boldairade -> what's the difference?? (12/31/2021 5:12:30 PM)

a player recently advised me to leave my russian corps alone, and they would upgrade into red armies. exciting!

that said, i have noticed them change before, and as far as i can tell, nothing changes. still 18 steps, same combat values.

why is this beneficial?

I don't think this is the same. Could you please post a screenshot of the unit detail for a Soviet Infantry corps before upgrade to a half army and a screenshot of the unit detail for a Soviet Infantry half or full army? The attributes must be different as per manual (see below screenshot).

You can merge two Soviet Infantry half armies into one Soviet Infantry full army.

By the way, stjeand, linked to one of your previous answer in another thread, looks like this is possible to customize units per country given what is stated here in the manual. No idea where to find how to do this. I have almost never open the editor.

@ncc1701e - Each country has its own unit list in the editor so you can customize their attributes however you want for a custom campaign. I believe there are actually more differences than are listed in the manual. Italy in particular has many units that are slightly weaker than the german counterparts (even subs I believe for example).

Thank you, as I said I am quite unfamiliar with the editor. Is the editor manual detailing all this?

redrum68 -> RE: what's the difference?? (12/31/2021 6:44:43 PM)

@ncc1701e - Not sure as I haven't read much of it. I just opened the editor and clicked around on everything :)

what is the rating 'strength' in that graphic??

i see the steps being the same 18 in each.

boldairade -> RE: what's the difference?? (12/31/2021 6:50:38 PM)

is it possible my corps names have been changed to things like '1st latvian soviet army' but the formation remains a corps?

or maybe they were named that all along? it is late 1942

redrum68 -> RE: what's the difference?? (12/31/2021 7:02:37 PM)

@boldairade - Strength is the number of hits they can take. Soviet corps always have 20 max strength. Soviet armies have 36 max strength and soviet half armies have 18 max strength. So if you click on any of your infantry units then you can see if they are corps or armies based on their max strength. Over time, most/all of your corps should automatically convert to armies/half armies.

Nirosi -> RE: what's the difference?? (12/31/2021 7:39:34 PM)

Not only the 1/2 army that converted from a rifle corps is probably better in itself (despite the 2 strength points less) because of the extra firearms and gun, but it also has the big advantage to be merged with another one into a full army when needed. Watch out of XPs however, the new unit XPs will be the average (adjusted for each units steps) of the two merging.

Also IF it is a corps that is damaged...it gets fully repaired. So that is a HUGE plus too...

ALWAYS retreat your corps that have 5 or less str left to the back lines for this purpose alone...and be sure to set them to not upgrade.

since repair and upgrade aren't separated, doesn't this mean they are worthless until at some point this is turned back on ?

By the way, Alvaro this is not in the manual but is it really intent that the Soviet Army defense is 4 and not 5 like every other countries? Even an Italian infantry corps has a defense of 5.

Same for Soviet Headquarters, they have a defense of 4 whereas Headquarters for all other countries have a defense of 5.
