stww2 -> Units Assigned to ASuW (Ground) Patrol Mission Not Engaging Targets within No Nav Zone (1/1/2022 9:30:52 PM)
|
In the attached save file, a F-35 assigned to an ASuW (Ground) Patrol is on station outside of a no-nav zone inside of which there is a prosecution zone containing several hostile barracks. Despite having the appropriate weaponry and being in range of the targets, the F-35 does not open fire at them. Targets within a no-nav zone can in other circumstances be engaged; for example, I previously was able to order a flight of F-15's to auto engage a Mig-21 within the same no-nav zone (concerningly, they went into the no-nav zone while carrying out the engagement, but that's a separate issue) and I was able to order another F-35 to auto-engage a different barracks at standoff range, which it did successfully without entering the no-nav zone. Given the above behavior, it would make sense that given an ASuW (Ground) Patrol mission with targets inside of a prosecution zone inside of a no-nav zone, assigned units with weapons capable of engaging the targets at standoff range outside of the no-nav zone would be able to do so. However, unless I have overlooked something, that does not appear to be the case (and yes, the mission option allowing for engagements outside of the patrol zone is checked). Fortunately, this behavior is not a major issue for the player (as manual weapons allocation or an auto-engage order can enable targets to be struck), but I could see it being an issue for scenario designers trying to program AI sides to attack hostile targets from standoff range without exposing the assigned units to hostile air defense or CAP. Game version is 1147.34. Save file attached.
