Hey what about removing all the non-armoured, non-recon and unarmed trucks from infantry battalions and centralise them in a theatre truck pool? Every foot unit would have three movement options ; combat, March, motorised march. In "motorised march" they would use up transport points from the pool to move quickly along roads. The points used would be deducted from the pool total and would only be returned once the battalion dismounted for combat or off road movement. Attrition would be applied to the truck total as a result of ambush /interdiction, etc, any replacements received would top up the truck pool. Any type of unit could use the truck pool to augment their road movement if they only possessed some horses for example.

Not a bad thought...

I do not see the reason for that change...

Currently we are seeing unrealistic attrition rates for trucks from combat, normally these trucks would be in the rear in reality. The other reason is that off road movement is not represented effectively in game because trucks do not have good off road capability. So we sometimes have situations where motorised infantry battalions cannot make best use of terrain for defence because they have to drag their trucks through the forest with them for example. Granted this is not a major problem in mostly open terrain but in parts of the Ardennes, the Vosges and the Hürtgenwald it is problematisch.

Players can split off trucks and halftracks off the parent unit to preserve them. It's fiddly and takes time but it works. The big disadvantage is that you need to have at leat 50 power points in the split-off halftrack/trucks unit. Maybe it would be a good idea to scrap that limitation for transport units (80%+ "transporter" type elements).

Another disadvantage is that if the transporters are part of the unit, there is a motorization chance even if the transporters can't carry the entire manpower. By contrast, in order to transport a unit via the "transport" button, the transporter unit needs to be able to carry the entire manpower.

Yes, getting rid of the restrictions on merging units would be helpful, for example one could leave all the transport elements of an infantry battalion with the regimental artillery battalion.

The risk is probably that some players tried to game the system by spamming verysmall units everywhere in order to slow an ennemy.

I am thinking about this. It is an interesting issue raised and there might well be space for improvement.

The US army in ww2 and korea especially, employed this tactic very efficiently and widely, trucks pick up troops, drop them off approx. a mile from the front then return to a regt. 'park'.

This also increases traffic road pt.s etc. [:D]
