CaesarAug -> bug? or POWERFUL feature! (1/14/2022 4:41:17 PM)

In my avid tinkering with the game editor, I have discovered what is most likely a bug… or an exceedingly POWERFUL feature! [:D]

As it turns out, Advanced Submarine manual research upgrades or Naval Warfare Doctrine automatic upgrades, will increment additional STRIKES PER LEVEL.

In other words, in my testing, my submarines have accumulated 5 strikes in one turn, and using up proportionately supply, with a final expenditure of 1 supply point consumed after having had 5 strikes.

Testing on latest SC WAW v1.13.00, haven’t tested other SC games and also have not tested other units yet, out of curiosity. As far as I knew, a maximum of 2 strikes was permissible for any type of unit. But in my testing, submarines can accumulate 1 strike per level of applicable research.

Like I said: most likely it is a bug, though a good one, eh? [:D]

Super-Subs, based on the Editor, it's like fighting Nazi Zombies in all kinds of films.

He thinks we're being stalked by dead Nazis. Ghosts? I didn't get shot by some f-ing spectral entity, here. These things are solid.

EDIT: Further testing SC WAW v1.13.00 shows a systemwide strike increment on naval, air, and land units PER LEVEL of applicable research bonus. For fighters this likewise includes increments PER LEVEL of intercept and escort missions.

Clearly this utterly awesome but it is extremely gamey since it can go far beyond the 2 strike limit on certain units, as per game-default (unless applicable research is limited to 1 level).

Thought to point this out to the developers...

Absolutely, buddy! We're in the same camp, I just use different words. Them units are badass!

You never know man, even a 1-shot torpedo from the early days can dump a big boy, ask then folks North of Ireland.

This isn't in any of the default scenarios, but just an editor feature you are talking about, correct? I was already aware of it, and made sure the extra strikes were deleted from the Warfare techs (in vanilla there's only 1 level; I followed Crispy's 5 level model, just morale boosts).

CaesarAug -> RE: bug? or POWERFUL feature! (1/15/2022 12:00:09 AM)

It’s the editor that allows strike increments for units per level, i.e., like other upgradeable unit stats, above what I thought was a limit of 2 strikes, regardless of multiple levels of research bonuses.

Hi CaesarAug

It is certainly possible to use the editor to increase the strikes this way, it is fully up to the campaign designer/modder.

As you imply, it is something that is best used sparingly to avoid having massively overpowered units in the game.

CaesarAug -> RE: bug? or POWERFUL feature! (1/16/2022 3:48:05 PM)

BillRunacre, thanks so much for the confirmation: so, the number of strikes can also increase beyond 2 on a per level of research bonuses! It is not a bug after all but a feature! My word…! [&o]

This opens up endless possibilities for modding other aspects to compensate for numerous strikes per turn! Already been testing with damage evasions, entrenchment, naval action points, retreat parameters, etc., with interesting results. This feature is AWESOME.

Now I’m for it, haha!!! [:D]

Great, glad to see you're finding it useful. [:D]
