I think that for Germany it would be useful, since the maintenance of these units in oil is expensive, especially when they suffer significant damage and you are not willing to repair it.

Even if they only recover 10% of their cost, the oil savings would be useful.

Does ships consume oil if there are in port? And for repair, there is still this button.

Exploit will be to disband ships to buy armor. [:D]

Allowing disbanding of ships will create a huge exploit

Allowing the ships to be scuttled with NO PP gain would be okay in my eyes.

Yes ships use oil in port. I believe 3 ships in port use 1 oil per turn.

NOW would I disband the German navy...No they are very useful.

BUT when ships get crippled and with no desire to repair them I would rather just scuttle than leave in port and have them eat up oil.
Perhaps they could suicide out on an MM line...eating up more UK oil instead?

One game I am in now...the Russians have no ports in the Baltic...their ships are out of fuel but floating at sea.
They eat up oil but can't fight. So WHY would I as the Axis sink them? It is a lose lose for me.
Though one day a port could be recaptured and they become useful again, I suspect that is a rarer case.

Not sure if it would be possible to reduce the oil consumption of ships (in port at least if not possible always) when they have only 1 or 2 strength points left?

Personally I think this should be how it is for all unit types. You get the manpower/logistics back but NO production. This prevents lots of different abuses like disbanding the entire USSR air force.

Well I could see some PP returned for certain things...

Armor / Mech corps do contain anti-tank and such which could be reassigned to Infantry.

Air would return much less...

And naval...well basically just steel for use. So little.

Absolutely.

Basically agree. Alvaro is considering Air units more for pilots than planes. Don't know if this should impact PP or not.

Is it not something to solve? Since shore bombardment from port is now forbidden.

I am referring to being able to disband it, as Stjeand says, even if no production is recovered. The Graf Spee was sunk by her crew during World War II.

I have no issues with 3 ships requiring 1 oil.
For me that is not an issue.
If you want a navy it must be maintained.

For me probably should be the same for an airforce.
