Phoenix100 -> Nice AI so far! (1/26/2022 10:08:45 AM)

For example, I just played the Xa Cam My (Courtenay plantation) scenario, where what happened historically was that C company ran into the VC base in the woods and was quite quickly surrounded by the VC. From playing ME I did not expect the AI to be able to pull that off. But it did! It actually moved, separately, to surround both B and C companies. And I duly lost the scenario. It was also pretty atmospheric, in the woods, at night, no vis etc, just those new muzzle flash markers. Cool work. Thanks!

I hope CSME can be updated to use the Event Engine in a similar fashion. I assume it was the EE part of the AI that pulled off the surround manouever.

I agree. The new AI is a huge improvement on the legacy AI.

I find it particularly evident as I am playing all the scenarios chronologically as the Allied side before intending to repeat it as the VM/VC/NVA.

Obviously I am playing some scenarios where the new AI is not in place for the communist side and those scenarios where they rely on the legacy AI are much easier to win.

Thank you for your feedback, I am glad to hear you've enjoyed the new computer opponent!

While we've enhanced the legacy "tactical" AI in the C++ engine to have an improved tactical awareness of what goes around each unit, the introduction of the new Lua based "operational" AI as part of the new Event Engine is quite a game changer, isn't it [:)]

No pun intended. OK, maybe just a little [:'(]

No. More likely it was improvements to the core game engine EAI (the Enhanced AI aka Engine AI, what we used to call the Legacy AI, or LAI). So even if you play scenarios that are not SAI (Scripted AI) scripted, you should still expect to see better moves in the overall AI, like the encirclement you describe.

I can confirm that the Legacy AI as the VM in Ninh Binh battle 4 Operation Aeroporte was pretty competent when I played that one so no complaints there at all.

Most CSEE programming has to do with providing the units with operational awareness at company level, then relying that once the units are where they are supposed to be, when they are supposed to be there. SAI, or Scripted AI, in a way.

Then the SAI programmer mostly relies that said units will execute the tactical stuff under EAI.

Very rarely are there needs to guide a single platoon at this way, mostly when said platoon is a special capability unit like Engineer etc.

One without the other would fall short, at some stage at least.

You say, Berto, that the AI responses were more likely down to improvements in the legacy AI - can I ask, then - are these improvements already in the CSME engine too? Thanks.

devoncop -> RE: Nice AI so far! (1/27/2022 9:07:33 AM)

Phoenix

They have said the improvements to the UI,AI etc will all be ported across to CSME but they are not there yet. Bear in my the new Event system needs to be added along with new scenario scripting.

Phoenix100 -> RE: Nice AI so far! (1/27/2022 9:19:37 AM)

Actually, the reason I asked, devoncop, is because I believe I've already been told that the CSME engine is up to date with the CSV engine, so I was just wanting clarity as to whether the improvements to the legacy AI that Berto speaks about above (not the event engine or scripting etc) are already there in CSME? I'm asking only about the improvements to the 'legacy AI' he talks about above - are they already in CSME? Berto can clarify, no doubt. Thanks.

Middle East 2.0 update is from 2018, there's a ton that's been done since. We do have an internal Middle East BETA build that has been kept up with the latest, and it will be the basis for Middle East 3.0 update.

Before we can release Middle East 3.0, however, there's a ton of work in programming the Lua files to accompany each Middle East scenario to inlude the computer side with an operational battle plan. That is a lot of work to be completed in order for the update to become available.

To provide a short answer: no, the current Middle East 2.0 is not up to date with latest engine improvements. To be corrected once the 3.0 update ships. Worth mentioning also might be that 3.0 update is free as such, should one already own the Middle East game.

Thanks. I have both. I can't recall which of you is the cartographer, but the graphics in both titles - the maps, I mean - are really gorgeous. Best maps in any such game, I think.

That would be Jason. A professional cartographer, and it shows.
