klzlueylx -> Questions about game mechanic (1/27/2022 11:35:01 AM)

So I've read the manual multiple times and it's not the first time playing, still got many confuse though.

1.how long does a gruppe usually take to transfer?
i've ordered some gruppen transfer to another AF, and manual describes as follows :
" Transfer Time: The time it takes for the transferred air unit to arrive at its new base depends upon the distance between the two bases, so you may see a substantial delay before a transferred unit appears at its new base, although its name will appear at the location immediately."
but i can't find the Transfer Time anywhere... it's not available to players yes? i've ordered the gruppen to transfer, by the night they are still transiting. and the same by the next morning. i got frustrated, why not using shuttle any way?

2.what does "LAA" "HAA" stands for, in the recon photos?
i know it's light AA and Heavy AA, except i dont know how big the calibre need to be to be counted as HAA. 20mm surely is LAA yes? how about 40mm bofors?

3.how many operational points do i get exactly?
the manual, page 45 says "At the beginning of each new Movement Phase, the defending player is given 100 Operation Points to spend (in Bombing The Reich, it’s 500 Points) moving guns, balloons, and air units (see below). The amount of Op Points spent moving these items is indicated in the ‘Move Cost’ column."
sure. i got the 100 points. but im the attacker player, and the manual never said anything about the attacker player. i spent the 100 points in the morning, and by the evening after raids complete, in brief phase i got another 100 points. Though by now i'm not really want to use these, since moving the gruppe is extremly slow and as attacker i can only move these gruppen.

4.Should I rotate tired or highly unavailable gruppen back the frontline or i just skip them when planning so they rest on site?
for the transferring time is.... long, and i only got 79 turns to play. (Eagle Day campaign)

5.what's the difference between "repair"&"maintainence" in practice?
i guess repair is for damaged and the latter for healthy planes? yet i seems got nothing to intervene, and the ED campaign doesn't simulate a production line which might offer plane parts to replace damaged ones. So I just sit and wait them to be ready someday?

Great questions klzlueylx.
1. the delay in minutes is 10Xmiles moved + 180. Moving a group will move all aircraft including those being serviced so you may not want to use shuttle because you can only shuttle "ready" planes, the rest are left behind. I increased the delay time from previous versions and during testing this seemed to work OK, considering the logistics involved in transferring an entire group even a few miles.

2. Light AA has a range of 20,000 feet or less. Check your ground defense listing under the weapon database.

3. It works out to be 100 for BOB and 500 for BTR per turn. The first turn makes it seem like you get double, but you don't (or shouldn't).

4. Even with the delay I think it's good to move groups to quieter sectors to get replacements, lose fatigue and gain back morale. Airfields near undamaged rail centers should get the pick of replacements.

5. Generally speaking, if the damaged aircraft has less than 2 days of work to get it flying it is in maintenance, otherwise it is in repair. Nothing you can do to improve repair times.

Thank you simovitch!!!
your answer really helped a lot!!!

basing on the formula you give, a short relocation, say 50 mile, can be estimate to be completed within a day; let's assume i made this transfer in 4:30AM(which is the time of raidplanning phase); i can have the gruppe in a raid after (500+180)/60=11.33 hours later, let's say 13hrs later, which is 5:30PM; and if it's still counted as day phase, EVEN if when i plan this raid, the gruppe shows as 0 rdy plane, it can still fly by 5:30PM?

another question i bump into is the shuttle raids. today i planned a shuttle raid with escort, since the ED campaign, reinforced KGr606 based in Ostern somehow cannot be tasked with any other LF2 comrades(If i choose it to lead, nobody else can join the bomber crew; if i choose someone else from LF2 to lead, then KGr606 just won't show up in the bomber list. My guess is Ostern base is directly assigned to LF2 rather than a junior command like flirerkorp?). After action i notice there is a new gruppe shown in the target base named as "det-KGr606", and the original KGr606 still stays in Ostern(though with 0 rdy planes). the manual didn't tell the shuttle details so i tried to run a idle turn, by the next turn the det vanished, and KGr606 stays in Ostern, with most planes "in transit". So should player manually move the original gruppe to it's shuttle base after action? Or should i move the det gruppe back to it's original base if i changed my mind about changing base?

and sorry, still questions.

it's the Gruppe KGr126, based in Brest, in ED campaign. this guy got 4 ready planes, and 45 planes in reserve. but when i check it's detail i see 36 pilots. i compared with other gruppen to check and what i found is, other gruppe keep their planes in reserve only because they have more plane than pilots, yet this one doesnt match this pattern. Can you help me check it?

I'll look into this and the movement delay, thanks.
