TomWalton -> Stacking issue (Street without joy scenario) (1/28/2022 6:42:14 PM)

Got a problem here with bringing on reinforcements...

Some of them come "off-shore" and need to be picked up by landing craft, who have to return from the beach to pick them up...

But by the time they get there, they can't get back into the hex to do so, because of the stacking limit... Sad!

With previous CS games, I think the hexes on which reinforcements appeared had no stacking limit. Do we need the same here?

Like the others I've played so far, a really neat scenario! But I think those reinforcements are going to be desperately needed!

Ah yes, I will space the reinforcements out.

One of those things that as I've been playing for years, I know to put the boats in the reinforcement hex first so they can load into the boats when the reinforcements come.

That's not intuitive, my fault.

I'll remedy that for the official 1.01 UPDATE

One thing you might want to try (I haven't tested this) by try to load from the hex into an adjacent hex where the landing craft(etc) are.

Nevermind, that won't work.

You can send me your file and I can tweak it for you so you can load up some troops.

Oh! One thing!

Did you know you can CANCEL the reinforcement, so you don't have to bring them on the map until you're ready?

That's not commonly known.

Additional question, did you pick up the troops that were there already? in the hex at the transports?

You should be able to move in a landing craft to pick up the ones that were at the start of the scenario.

Yes, I picked up and landed the first lot, but brought in the next load of reinforcements before the landing craft had returned -- assuming that the hex in question could be overstacked no problem. In fact, I think it was overstacked with reinforcements, but wouldn't let me add a landing craft of any size.

Many, many thanks, Jason but I'm sure you've got enough on your plate right now! I can restart ;-) !

(I sometimes wonder if it wouldn't be better in cases like that just to have the reinforcements magically appear on the beach, and not even bother with the landing craft, especially for the second lot... There were a couple of huge D-Day scenarios for West Front that I played, one where there were several divisions to be landed, a second in which the reinforcements just appeared on the beach. My preference is for the second -- but as I say, Street without joy here looks wonderful. The terrain looks great!)

Yes, that's an idea.

For larger scenarios, that makes sense. I'm also a sucker for punishment, I don't mind going back and forth. I believe there are only three company sized units that come on around turn 13 and turn 20, requiring a handful of turns to turn around. I will double check the unit count in each reinforcement to make sure it isn't over-stacked and if so, tweak it accordingly. During my initial test it was ok, stranger things have happened though!

Operation Starlite has the same type of set up, fair warning. BUT, there is a Landing Zone in the reinforcement hexes, so you can pick up the reinforcements with helicopters instead of the landing craft.

Glad you like the map!

I'll be playing this live on Wednesday nights on Twitch: https://www.twitch.tv/campaignserieslegion

How's that for punishment? LOL!
