This is probably the dumbest question but where on the map or the interface is the game date? I may be looking right past it but I don't see the game date anywhere.

It is in the upper right of the screen next to the red turn arrow.

Thanks for the info BUT for whatever reason the date is not displayed in that place on my interface. The red arrow is there but no date. This is very strange because everything else about the game seems to be in working order. tks

Odd. It could be a screen resolution problem. Try disabling the national morale bars in the advanced game options assuming they are on. You might not have enough horizontal pixel space to display both.
