Nox0s -> Are there campaigns in the game or only scenarios? (2/4/2022 5:17:16 AM)

I loved the linked campaigns in the original John Tiller games.

There are currently only scenarios.

But, two of the scenarios called "A Week in..." are essentially linked campaigns in one scenario as you are completing different missions every day for a week for each battalion under your command.

Are there campaigns planned? Getting ready to purchase and was just wondering. A week in scenarios sound amazing.

Personally, I think that long scenarios are way better than campaigns. I’ve always loved longer JTS games scenarios which take place over days, but sadly the AI in those was really bad. This game seems like a huge step forward simply because the AI’s decisions actually make sense, even if they’re wrong.

Eventually there will be some Linked Campaigns, but I'm on the page as Ekaton, the longer scenarios are really fun and indepth.

A huge challenge to design though!

Speaking of, if there are types of Week In scenario/campaign you'd like to see, don't be afraid to share!

Little known, and surprising to learn, facts:

  • John Tiller did not program the campaign system of the Campaign Series. A long forgotten Talonsoft coder did.
  • As old as some of the Campaign Series code is (much if not most has been rewritten and modernized), the programming in the "frontend launcher", Vietnam.exe, is even more archaic in its design and implementation. The frontend is the basis for the CS LCG (Linked Campaign Games) system. It is overdue to be overhauled, but other things have taken priority (deepening the game play, extending the CSEE, buffing the AI, retooling parts of the graphics engine, etc.). First things first.
