OldCat -> Messages bug in multiplayer (2/4/2022 8:00:51 AM)

Dear community,

on a sudden, I experienced the following issue which seems to persist:

After starting a new PBEM++-Online Session, all the messages vanished, like I would have unchecked the message box at the settings. But it was checked. For me this is so annoying, that I won't play PBEM++-Online Sessions anymore, as long as the issue persists. (But I am more then convident, that with your help, we can solve the issue).

The following things, I tried with my game companion, to solve the issue:
I quit the session and started a new session. -> Didn't solve the issue.
I started new test sessions as host and not as host. -> Didn't solve the issue.
I reinstalled Strategic Command on the simple way, (just deinstalled at Steam). -> Didn't solve the issue.

Some notices to the issue:
I am new to the game (1 week).
My gaming companion has not the issue at all.
At singleplayer I have not the issue as well, but at multiplayer.
My first PBEM++-Online session worked well. With the second PBEM++-Online session the issue showed up and kept showing up until now.
My companion and me are using the same mod. So using the mod is not causing the issue.

-> One thing I did further, which approval is still pending due to my companion will come back:
I deleted Strategic Command once again, but with all files, stored in MyGames folder and at ApplicationData folder.

Within a few hours, I can tell you, if the last rty to solve the issue will have success or not.

But if one of you, already have a clue, what is happening to my game, I would be really grateful to you! [&o]

Thanks in advance
OldCat

Edit:

The complete reinstall (with all files, not steam only) did not solve the issue either.

Hi OldCat,

Could you tell me which messages have disappeared? I'm not sure I understand, for example, the messages between opponents that appears in the upper left hand corner, in game popup messages or maybe the mouse hover text? Or something else?

Any extra info you can provide will be helpful for me to help you sort this out,
Hubert

Hey Hubert, thanks for your reply and help :-)

Sorry, for being unclear and for my delay. The ingame popup messages are affected.

The following infos about this issue I can provide to you:

* It only happens in multiplayer.
* It only happens to me, not to my companion.
* At my very first PBEM++ Session, it ran very well.
* At my second session, it happened every round.
* At further test sessions, it happened a round and next round it did not happen, and so on. Personally, I have a hunch, that quitting the .exe of that game (Close the game) and restart the game, entering the lobby, can provoke the issue.
* It happens with mods and without mods (vanilla).
* My companion and me have different systems, where the game is running on: He has AMD Ryzen architecture with AMD grafics card. I have an Intel architecture with GeForce grafics. (I will gather the whole dataspecs of both systems and will provide it to you).

Following steps i tried, to solve the issue by myself, all of them failed:
* I disabled mods.
* I reinstalled the game via steam, without further steps.
* I reinstalled the game via steam and deleted further datafiles at AppData and MyGames folder.
* I reinstalled it with reinstalling steam as well.
* I "formatc:" my whole system.

Best regards
OldCat

Thanks for the info, and can you confirm that the 'Messages' option is enabled in the OPTIONS screen?

OldCat -> RE: Messages bug in multiplayer (2/9/2022 6:21:11 AM)

Dear Hubert,

yes, the "Messages" option is enabled at the options screen, as a matter of course. I forgot to mention it.

I will make on case clear: At singleplayer, there's no problem. It happens only at PBEM++ Sessions. No matter, which faction I play.

Hotseat I haven't tested yet.

Hubert Cater -> RE: Messages bug in multiplayer (2/9/2022 1:02:09 PM)

A hotseat test on your end would be great as well just to help narrow this down. Let me know if you get a chance to test this and what the results might be.

OldCat -> RE: Messages bug in multiplayer (2/11/2022 7:37:41 AM)

Dear Hubert,

the hotseat has that malfunction as well, showing up at axis faction.

Best regards
OldCat

Hi OldCat,

Thanks for the extra bit of information. Unfortunately I'm unable to repeat this, in any game play mode, e.g. whether playing Single Player, Hotseat or PBEM++.

e.g. in the 'OPTIONS' screen I have 'Messages' enabled, and then on the very first turn of the 1939 campaign the initial popup appears every time.

Perhaps try changing the 'Full Screen' setting in the 'SETTINGS' screen to see if this changes anything for you?

Hubert

Duedman -> RE: Messages bug in multiplayer (2/12/2022 5:18:48 AM)

It is most likely not related but when I started recording videos I had a problem, that any overlay messages as well as Research, Buy and Diploscreens would not show up in the videos. I saw them while playing tho.
I was using what I thought was Nvidia Shadowplay (I did not install anything).
After some time I realized, that I had to download Nvidia Experience or something. And with that all the overlays appeared in the videos too.

tl,dr maybe update drivers for graphics card?

OldCat -> RE: Messages bug in multiplayer (2/12/2022 7:05:47 AM)

Dear Hubert,

as changing resolutions down and enabled windowed mode did not solve the prob either, me was wiping out all of the stuff once again, reinstalling it ... it actually works! [:D]

As we don't know, what it was ... me is glad, that it is working now.

Thank you very much for your compassion and help my friend.
