Stephan61 -> VVS GS/CAP In Heavy Snow/Blizzard (2/5/2022 8:44:07 AM)

Updated to .19
Game v Russian A.I.
Ground- Heavy Snow
Air - Blizzard

I ran the first Russian turn under the update.

Suddenly out of nowhere the VVS have started to fly GS/CAP Air Missions in the most atrocious weather. That in its self is no problem, but:

I would have expected some higher operational losses (Below is typical example) due to the adverse weather conditions, but looking at all the attacks along the front, those supported by GS or CAP the losses seem minimal rather than the higher they should be?

Is the AI programmed to fly in ALL Weather or >Poor

Can you show the air losses tab from that combat display?

No FLAK engagement either.... it might be me, but it just looks very strange to suddenly start happening.

And yet more strange VVS GS.
Lost a lot of A/C in A2A yet I didnt send any fighters up?

Joel Billings -> RE: VVS GS/CAP In Heavy Snow/Blizzard (2/6/2022 7:41:14 PM)

It does appear that Gary has changed the AI's GS doctrine for most Air Armies to fly in all weather. As for the last screen, we know there are cases where aircraft fly but aren't listed as having done so in the battle report (display bug). We most see this when intercepting transports, where a player can routinely lose more a/c intercepting that listed as having intercepted. I'm not sure we've noticed it in ground support, and in this case the fact that there were no German air losses listed seems hard to believe given all the Soviet A2A losses. I suppose it is possible though. If you can duplicate this kind of thing from a save, please attach the save and info on how to see it repeat. This is something that Pavel will have to look into in the future, but having the save for him when he has time to do that would be very valuable. Thanks.

Attached as requested.

Things I have noted.
A large proportion of the Air Missions are defended by OKL and not Luftflotte 1 or 2.
There are some engagements from AS missions, but the FW190's are assigning to Romanian Air Command

I just run air supply missions during blizzard and there was no difference in ops losses in comparison to clear/light rain. If you want saves - check my server game.

Joel Billings -> RE: VVS GS/CAP In Heavy Snow/Blizzard (2/7/2022 6:24:14 PM)

Wow, that's strange. I flew some air transports to Stalingrad in StoB and got murdered by op losses. I'm talking 10s of aircraft lost to op losses.

Stamb -> RE: VVS GS/CAP In Heavy Snow/Blizzard (2/7/2022 6:25:56 PM)

I am playing GC, maybe it works fine in scenarios? In GC there are no ops losses at all. Blizzard feels like clear air.

Joel Billings -> RE: VVS GS/CAP In Heavy Snow/Blizzard (2/8/2022 4:41:31 PM)

Ok, I was confused. I was talking about what happens when you fly transports at night in bad weather (they can lose 25%+ in op losses). Daylight op losses are much lower in bad weather (maybe too low). With all the changes to op losses, either directly or indirectly over the past few months, it may be that the difference in op losses in daytime bad weather isn't as big as it should be or once was. I've got a save I can use for transports in blizzard.

Stamb -> RE: VVS GS/CAP In Heavy Snow/Blizzard (2/8/2022 4:46:19 PM)

Ah. We house rule night air transport, as it was not intercepted, no ops losses, same amount of freight delivered.
So my posts refers to a day transfers only. But I see no difference in ops losses between clear/rain/blizzard.
