When I have played several Dien Bien Phu scenarios, the most important thing came to me: what is the best way to assault a well defended bunker? In these scenarios, French units's morale get a high points when they sit in a bunker, make them easier recover from disrupt in next turn. If there is two or three bunker in the front, and French troops could move from front to rear for rotation, I think it's hard for VC to capture the bunker without heavy losses. Maybe the best way for VC is below: 1. Suppress the hexes around the Bunker with 60mm to 120mm mortals, to make units movement harder and danger when they exposed in open ground. 2. Using 75mm or 105mm howitzer gun attack the bunker directly or indirectly, seeking a lucky roll. 3. Use flare during night phase to show the position of French units. 4. Make some fake movement and fire with your units from different direction, when french movement points cost by return fire, it will protect the main wave of attack. Also you should make your MMG open fire from 2-3 hex to attract the attention of bunker. 5. Main attack will composed by engineer units, which will provide max assault points, and tried to assault from different direction during a single attempt.
