Speculation on my part, but I can think of a few reasons;
No reason not to spend all their money on Polish stuff (rather than being tempted to just not spend any) and/or spending an unreasonable amount (of what should be the corresponding major's money)
a more "controlled" morale loss - events only, rather than nickel and diming from unit losses.
Allows Germany to attack them prior to being at war with the western allies (not exactly a MAJOR difference to just have Britain and/or France start at war, admittedly :D)
