LN59 -> Thanks to David GALSTER (2/16/2022 12:40:48 AM)

My warmest thanks to David GALSTER of the CS Legion for the historical nuggets he offers us with the Diên Biên Phu scenarios;

for his booklets (PDF) too, that can be found in the 'Additional Resources / CSLegion Vietnam War Blog Posts' directory of the game.

Do not miss to read them, they are very well done and fascinating. I obviously do not forget all the other creators of the game and the scenarios,

because I am only at the beginning of the discovery. "Quel beau travail a été réalisé !"

[&o] What a great job has been done!

Not only his writings, David has also authored several dozen scenarios for CS:Vietnam, many of them French IndoChina War scenarios that you are enjoying in the game's initial release. Wait til you get to see his Laotian "Secret War"

https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Laotian_Civil_War

scenarios planned for inclusion in a future DLC! And 1971's

https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Operation_Lam_Son_719

These scenarios are already finished, awaiting scripting and playtesting.

Great stuff!

I just read about Lam Son yesterday by co-incidence....That one will give the ARVN player nightmares [:D]

Hoplite1963 -> RE: Thanks to David GALSTER (2/16/2022 11:35:59 AM)

I am really looking forward to the CSVN DLC as well. Now you have wetted our appetite for Vietnam would it perhaps be a good idea to switch to bringing out the Vietnam DLC’s after CSME is updated before moving on to the launch version of East Front III ? Perhaps the team might wish to proceed on the following basis ?

1.Update CSME to version 3.
2.Bring out the CSVN Vietnam battles 1968-1975 DLC
3.Bring out the CSVN DLC covering Laos, Canmbodia and the 1979-1989 Sino Vietnamese conflict.
4.Bring out the CSVN Korean War DLC
5.Bring out the CSME Iran/Iraq War DLC
6.Bring out the CSME African bushfire wars DLC
7.Bring out East Front III

If on the other hand you feel that you really cannot leave East Front III that long you could perhaps bring it out once you have done the CSVN DLC’s and before starting on the CSME ones or at least do the 1968-1975 VSVN DLC first.

Kind Regards
Ian

We are likely to release CSME 3.0 and any CSVN DLCs before releasing CSEF III. Although the CSEF game engine and other EXEs are fully up to latest standards (with all the CSVN extensions and goodies), data content creation (maps, OOBs, scenarios, Lua scripts, etc.) is still in the early stages.

Like the Dien Bien Phu scenarios, ten of them, the Lam Son operation is currently broken down into -- would you believe? -- fifteen different scenarios. [:)]

berto -> RE: Thanks to David GALSTER (2/16/2022 2:33:31 PM)

The conflicts and battles waged across IndoChina from c. 1948 to c. 1989, forty years of strife, are far more than just the better known French IndoChina War and "the" (American involvement) Vietnam War. We have David Galster to thank for much of the game's broader and more obscure coverage.

LN59 -> RE: Thanks to David GALSTER (2/16/2022 3:13:33 PM)

Thanks guys !

Nothing but good news and lots of useful and appetizing information!

Hoplite1963 -> RE: Thanks to David GALSTER (2/16/2022 3:17:59 PM)

Hi Berto

Thank you very much. This is really good news (not that I don’t want EFIII as well of course) I see from your screenshot that there are a shedload of other Laos scenarios as well.

When you come to do the Korean War DLC you might want to take a look at “Korean War Order of Battle: United States, United Nations, and Communist Ground, Naval, and Air Forces, 1950-1953” by Gordon L. Rottman and published by Praeger Publishers. Its not cheap but it is well up to Mr Rottman’s usual high standards and gives a lot of detail.

Kind regards
Ian

berto -> RE: Thanks to David GALSTER (2/16/2022 3:20:41 PM)

If it's not clear, CSVN is far from complete, and the Campaign Series has a long life ahead of it.

Here's

[sm=00000436.gif]

to forty years and more (we hope) of fine war gaming!

@Jason [our OOB master], do you perhaps have this title?

Jason Petho -> RE: Thanks to David GALSTER (2/16/2022 3:29:59 PM)

Alas, I do not.

Jason Petho -> RE: Thanks to David GALSTER (2/16/2022 3:39:17 PM)

Based on our usual standards, what would be fantastic is a book or books that cover the North Korean OOBs from 1948-1985

Hoplite1963 -> RE: Thanks to David GALSTER (2/16/2022 4:10:23 PM)

Just 1950 1953 I am afraid although back issues of the IISS military Balance will give you the higher level picture.

Jason Petho -> RE: Thanks to David GALSTER (2/16/2022 4:17:49 PM)

I have a few old issues of IISS from the 70's and 80's, but alas, they are just general strengths - not near the detail needed to develop OOB's.

Hoplite1963 -> RE: Thanks to David GALSTER (2/16/2022 4:51:28 PM)

If you were going to set up 1985 as the main date for you hypothetical later Korean conflict there is always the work done by JTS / now WDS for their “Korea 85 title as a starting point.

Jason Petho -> RE: Thanks to David GALSTER (2/16/2022 4:52:37 PM)

I'd be more curious about their source material for the OOB's.

OMG !

Fifteen scenarios of increasingly shambolic ARVN operations 🙂

The masochist in me can hardly wait ....at least my generalship is of an equivilant standard to that of ARVN General Hoang Xuam Lam of I Corps 😉

budd -> RE: Thanks to David GALSTER (2/17/2022 1:38:18 PM)

I've done a 180 on my wishes. I just bought CSV to support and hurry you guys onto CSEF3, but I've changed my tune. I'm mostly a WW2 guy, and I've tried to branch out it other wars but not with much success. I have taken to WW1 recently, but still struggle with the Civil War, Napoleonic's, and any other theater. Don't have to worry about Vietnam anymore, this game is good, real good. I realized I have enough WW2 games if I get that itch, and WW2 is something I always go back to but I'm ready to buy to CSV DLC, so hurry it up. I am also really, really looking forward to the CSME upgrade. If you get CSME the full CSV treatment, an already good game will be fantastic. I'll take CSME DLC also please.

Gotto go, my troops are stuck wading through some flooded rice paddies and it's almost night time.

Jason Petho -> RE: Thanks to David GALSTER (2/17/2022 2:49:53 PM)

That's great news, Budd! Glad you're enjoying it!

The Laotian 'Secret War" wasn't so secret[:D]

Anyway, a book to read re; Laos is
Battle for Skyline Ridge: The CIA Secret War in Laos by James E. Parker

jimpyle -> RE: Thanks to David GALSTER (2/17/2022 7:34:09 PM)

I'm not familiar with "DLC". Looks like some add-on you can purchase. Help a rookie.

Jason Petho -> RE: Thanks to David GALSTER (2/17/2022 7:40:46 PM)

DLC = Downloadable Content.

Basically an expansion pack.

jimpyle -> RE: Thanks to David GALSTER (2/17/2022 7:43:04 PM)

Thanks. Figured something like that just curious about the actual wording.

berto -> RE: Thanks to David GALSTER (2/17/2022 9:14:00 PM)

For some reason, DLC is now the preferred term for what used to be called "expansion pack". [8|]
