Randy Stead -> Stereo Sound Upgrade (7/21/2001 3:36:00 AM)

I've just upgraded to version 6.1 but have not yet installed the sound upgrade patch. I was just wondering what a difference this makes to the sounds in the game? Unfortunately I do not have a good set of speakers on my computer, just a small set of cheapos. Is the difference in sound worth me going out and investing in a good set of speakers, and if so what kind are recommended, subwoofer, 3D surround, etc? I'm not using the computer for music, just gaming so it's never been an issue before, but if you other gamers are noticing an enhancement to the game sounds then I might just spring for some good sound equipment.

When I got my new Pentium 4 in January, I decided to go for the good speakers with sub-woofer. I don't do music, just SPWaW. The new sounds are fantastic! I keep the volume up and submerge myself in the battles. One example: When some crazy Russian throws a Molotov cocktail at your tank, you can hear the bottle break! :eek: And the overrun and melee make you want to start shouting for the Medics! :D [ July 20, 2001: Message edited by: Warrior ]

I have the Altec Lansing small 2.1 speaker system, with a Turtle Beach sound card, a new P3 computer. The sounds are very much worth having decent speakers with a subwoofer, the Altec is mid-line and doesn't cost all that much at the discount houses. Can practically guarantee you won't regret upgrading your speakers for the SPW@W sound files. Wait until you hear the battery commander yelling, the whistles for the assault, that faint rumbling in the distance alerting you to the presence of the dreaded Tiger, the spectacular rocket barrages, there are many such sound files yo will enjoy with better speakers. My next speakers - not right away - will be the Klipsch 2.1, and I wouldn't go for that unless I played SPW@W a lot. Bing

I didn't download the stereo upgrade for just the pleasure of hearing everthing in stereo, the upgrade is over 200MB and I have a slow modem... But it solved a sound bug for me and that was well worth the downloading time, but of course it didn't make the sound experience less nice ;)

Randy Stead -> (7/21/2001 5:58:00 AM)

Ok guys, thanks. Now you've gone and whetted my appetite for more computer hardware. Problem is I've just gone and ordered the Mega disk, which with shipping and conversion will cost me nearly $100 Canadian. The Missus is gonna flip if I now go out and splurge more. But thanks for the info, now I can show her that there really is a need to upgrade the sound hardware. ;)

Will the audio upgrade be included with Lost Victories....thought i read that somewhere?

lauter52 -> (7/22/2001 10:58:00 PM)

Has anyone been able to actually connect to the server lately to download the stereo upgrade? I've tried day and night to no avail.

Hello, I downloaded th stereo patch yesterday but I used the link on Fabio's page. Regards, Lars

lauter52 -> (7/23/2001 12:49:00 AM)

Just checked Fabio's site and the link apparently isn't working any longer...thanks anyway.

Personally I just love the breaking Smornoff Bottle when the molotov goes off.

KG Erwin -> (7/24/2001 3:00:00 AM)

With the stereo sounds, I now always leave fast artillery "off". The sound of an enemy tank brewing up is pleasing, too. The overruns--tank panic indeed! If the family is away, I plug a patch cord into my main stereo speakers. If I only had some flashing red and yellow strobe lights---the neighbors would really be scratching their heads. "Excuse me, Officer, but it sounds like there's a war going on next door!" :D

Does anyone have the answer to this question? 200MB is a lot for my modem to digest.

I'd like to see an answer to this as well. Paul? :confused:

Warhorse -> (7/25/2001 11:15:00 PM)

Hmm, sounds like I will hafta do that!! I'm running quad speakers with 21" woofers, 200 watts, sounds excellent now, can't wait to here THAT!!!

Dan Bozza -> (7/26/2001 2:14:00 AM)

I just tried to DL the upgrade - got an "Invalid Archive" message when I finished. Possible reason given was a corrupt file - anyone else have this problem?

Kilroy -> (7/26/2001 9:24:00 AM)

Downloaded 84.2MB, and had to pause, wife want'd to use computer. Can't connect with Matrix since this morning. Using Get Right and getting busy server. Do I have to start over or keep trying? thanks, Greg Kilroy :rolleyes:

Keep trying, MY Getright is working now. I have a slow 56K modem.

Dan Bozza -> (7/26/2001 8:09:00 PM)

I tried D/Ling the file a second time - both times it loads about 75% of the file, then says it's finished with the DL. When I go to open the file (It has the .zip extension) a message tells me I have an invalid archive. Can anyone help me?

bchapman -> (7/26/2001 8:54:00 PM)

Boz, are you using Get Right or GoZilla or something similar. These reallly help when downloading large files. I trying to download now with Get Right, about 50% through with 5 connects already, but each time it picks up where it left off. Good luck :)

Dan Bozza -> (7/26/2001 9:13:00 PM)

I will try that - thanks! Of course, now I can't get onto the download page! :rolleyes:

Scott Henley -> (7/27/2001 7:32:00 AM)

I can't get into to download it either. Anybody have another mirror for the sound upgrade? --Zimmerit

Kilroy -> (7/27/2001 6:20:00 PM)

Didn't continue the download. Was assured by the Matrix staff I'll be recieving my MC soon. I believe the new sound files are on the disc. If so will I be able to extract them without a full install or should I proceed with the download? Greg Kilroy

Dan Bozza -> (7/27/2001 8:32:00 PM)

New sound files are on the MC disk. :o D'oh! And double D'oh!

Which MC disk? North Africa or Lost Victories?

Dan Bozza -> (7/28/2001 12:00:00 AM)

If I'm not mistaken, North Africa. Someone correct me if I'm wrong. I'm not home to check the CD right now.

Couldn't find it on my CD.... Spwaw version 5.3 507 MB War in Russia 4.6 MB Pacific War 7.2 MB (and much more fine stuff) I doubt that there is enough place on one CD to contain both the game with the MC *and* the Soundfiles.... Is there any mirror for the soundfiles? I still didn't get a connection (always getting the "server busy, waiting to retry"-Message). Kind regards, Roland
