rbrunsman -> Help, I can't edit or view custom maps (10/4/2003 6:45:39 AM)

I don't know if I'm doing something wrong or if my game is somehow "damaged." In both my v7.1 and H2H.fr, if I try to load a custom map, the game crashes out to some sort of "safe" mode of Windows. I have to then reboot my computer. Anyone else have this problem? Am I doing something wrong? As it is, I can never be Player 1 with anything but a randomly generated map. I think it started when someone sent me a custom map a while ago. That's the only thing I can link it to because I used to be able to pull up custom maps. Help!! Thanks Bob

Try copying all your .txt description files from the map folder to another directory, then try opening a file. This same sort of occurance happened to me trying to load a scenario that had a bad description file. Something in it was farkled and it would crash the game each time I went to the screen that had that scenario on it. Nothing wrong with the scenario itself, it was the something out of place in the .txt file.

I finally deleted the .txt file and substituted a dummy file with just the title. Then it worked fine. You can add files back in a few at a time until you figure out which one is farkled.
thanks, John.
