I've rescued a fair number of my ships in these games. While the feature occasionally breaks down (seen ships get dropped off in non-base systems) or is a little strange (stranded ship needs to be told to dock with base???), it hasn't gone bye-bye on me yet. Could just be a matter of time, though.
