Irinami -> SS Cavalry Organization & History (11/7/2003 8:58:12 AM)

I am looking into the history of the SS Cavalry (and any Heer/German Army cavalry that may have existed as well). I think they are interesting organizations whose day has not ended--simply like the bolt-action rifle, their mission has changed due to the technological developments around them. This is apparently evident from reading up on the units on http://www.wssob.com/ -- Himmler's toilet got clogged with bricks every time he heard they were being used as front-line units.

I am interested in the 37th Freiwilligen Kavallerie Division "Lutzow" the most right now--these Johnny-Come-Lately's look to have been in quite the quandry. Their side was losing in a landslide, and yet they were sent into battle in an outmoded manner (I realize they weren't all cavalry). Especially for the 92nd Regiment, who were very young recruits, this must have been a source of incredible pride and consternation at the same time.

I especially am interested in a more detailed OOB of at least the combat arms. You all know what I'm looking for by now--something to turn into SPWAW terms. ;) Although more is always nice, as I am an active student of history.

Thanks in advance!

There is a really good scenario in CMBB with SS cavlary

Basicly they are left behind to hold some city (Budapest I think) and they are defending it down to the last man
Pretty good scenario

Irinami, also check this site: http://www.wwiidaybyday.com/ Christoph Awender has some detailed TOEs (in German parlance, KStNs) for many types of units, including the cavalry.
