Version 8 already contains a bunch of scenarios that are made for 8.0. Lot of older scenarios are being converted/checked and next patch probably adds quite a few of them. In general older scenarios work without any major problems...if the scenario is very old, like done prior the 7.1 then it is more likely that it will have some bugs. These bugs are usually oob related so you may have a unit with unusual weapon load or there may be a wrong unit icon or like that. Usually nothing really major. On the other hand, a scenario made for 8.0 may look very bad in 7.1 because of the new graphic elements...as the 7.1 doesn't have them it will show such map hexes as light green, very ugly looking :)
There is no 100% certain rule that a scenario made with version X.Y will work with current version...but as the differences are usually minor you can normally go on playing. And yes, it may just be that there will be no problems or you don't even notice them difeerences unless you examine the units very closely.
