Fortunately you can lose in each each of the 1st 3 rounds yet still advance. High raw scores are more important than winning or losing. [;)] Ate least until the final battle [:'(]

hogg -> RE: SPWAW Elimination Tournament (2/13/2004 11:30:41 PM)

Great!

Put me down for wins in the first three rounds, then to throw the fight in the first round against the kurnel in the final!

I've been waiting for others to jump in since I always volunteer and I feel a bit greedy for doing so.

But, you snooze you lose, so sign me up!

I especially love pre-set PBEMs. Bring it on![8D]

Yo All,
WB is in it? Tis been a while since I tangled with that cat...my a $ $ has had a bit of time to recover from the beating. Now what's this about a "raw score"? Man, y'all are gonna love playing me as I will beat you but not before 98% of my guys have had a date with the mortician.
Reminds me, anyone ever play an old C64 game called "High Noon"? My brother had it, really cool...a western draw game with much humor built into it but the best was after each round ending draw the mortician would come out and collect the loser. This while the High Noon theme song played throughout the game. Wish they made that for the PC.

Well, until we meet out in front of the saloon, here's a toast to y'all!

Sign me up too.

DoubleDeuce -> RE: SPWAW Elimination Tournament (2/14/2004 7:21:56 AM)

WE HAVE ALL 16 PLAYERS SO SIGN UP IS CLOSED ! I will begin pairing players up randomly and updating the website. The battle file and instructions will go out to the Defender 1st. Passwords and further details will go out ALL players in emails this weekend.

The Tournament Website can be found here SPWAW TOURNEY

Wild Bill -> RE: SPWAW Elimination Tournament (2/14/2004 7:34:13 AM)

The competition looks fierce. I feel somewhat like the old gunfighter, looking out on a crowd of hungry youngesters, gunbelts and holsters well oiled, colt revolvers, shining steel in the high noon sun, boots recently polished and those fine texas ten gallon wide brims keeping the glare from their eyes.

I try to look into that shadow beneath those sombreros but I can't see the eyes. The eyes tell me all.

Well, I cleaned the rust off my old six shooter this morning, the creases in my belt match the creases in my face. Both have seen too much sun for far too long.

So I resort to my old reliable philosophy, old age, treachery and cunning will outdo Youth, skill and impetuosity.

I'm waiting for someone to shout "DRAW!"

The Waiting Kunel

DoubleDeuce -> RE: SPWAW Elimination Tournament (2/14/2004 8:53:16 AM)

OK Everyone!

Here are the settings for the Round 1 Scenario.

DATE: 1300 Hours, September 1, 1939
LENGTH: 12 Turns
VISIBILITY: 15
WEATHER: Clear
MAP SIZE: 30x30

DEFENDER: Czechoslovakia (Player 1)
ATTACKER: Poland (Player 2)

All Preferences ON except;
Command and Control: OFF
Reduced Squads: OFF

END DATE: Midnight, March 2, 2004

OBJECTIVE: Points, Points, Points ! ! ! Get as many points as possible. Casualties are irrelevant. The 4 Attackers and the 4 Defenders with the highest score in their battle will advance. This means the losers of a battle can still advance if they get more points than the other players in their group (Attackers or Defenders).

NOTE: This scenario is NOT evenly matched. Worry about getting as many points as you can even if it means sacrificing your men. Its the number of points gained that will carry you to the next round not timidness and soldier's lives spared.

If you have a question please post your questions here or on the WFHQ Forums.

Alexandra -> RE: SPWAW Elimination Tournament (2/14/2004 3:07:52 PM)

Lol, Bill, I love the gunfighter reference. Very nice imagery.

And, a good luck in advance to everyone in the tourney.

Alex, who's dusting off that stocking carried derringer.

AngryDeemon1 -> RE: SPWAW Elimination Tournament (2/14/2004 6:31:37 PM)

SO where do we get the scenario, get in touch with our opponent etc? My email is wtruitt1@tampabay.rr.com. Also does foot troops only include howitzer type arty or only mortars?

The scenario has been predesigned by me. I will send it out to the player going first (in this case the Czech player) who will play his turn and send it to his opponent. All the details will come in an email you will be getting later today. The match ups are listed on the WFHQ Site HERE.

Foot troops only includes infantry, snipers, MG crews and units like that. Basically no artillery or vehicles. Only soldiers with small arms, rifles, mg's and maybe grenade launchers.

DoubleDeuce -> RE: SPWAW Elimination Tournament (2/15/2004 7:34:16 PM)

All game files and emails concerning the pairings have gone out to the players except for 1.

VikingNo2 - I need an updated email address from you to send you the information. I am holding the game file from your opponent until I get this.

If anyone has question comments etc, now is the time. The clock is ticking!

This one was small. SPWAW Players do not have a history (AFAIK) of playing many of these style tourneys so I wanted to start small and see if I can build interest over at WarfareHQ. If there is enough interest I will do either many mini ones (like this one) or a couple larger ones. My main focus has been the Combat Campaigns which while they are fun, there is much time of inactivity for some players until the actions moves near them. With elimination tourneys more pleople can be actively involved.

VikingNo2 -> RE: SPWAW Elimination Tournament (2/15/2004 10:36:20 PM)

here you go DD gregoryjj@hawaii.rr.com

DoubleDeuce -> RE: SPWAW Elimination Tournament (2/16/2004 9:09:02 PM)

If anyone has trouble with the files please let me know. Many of you may experience the "OOB Corruption" message. Just select to override it. This is OK and it as much to to do with the fact that I created the actual secre PBEM game on my PC. This causes warinings since the game is being played on 2 other PC's and mine is out of the rotation.

Wild Bill -> RE: SPWAW Elimination Tournament (2/17/2004 3:52:57 AM)

Coming from a talented writer, I'm greatful, Alex. Yeah, the derringer up the sleeve or the shotgun up on that second floor porch worry me just as much. Gunfighters with bifocals are not at their peak anyway![X(]

Too late now. I'm in the street. Showdown...(Tex Ritter softly sings, "Here I am torn twixt love and duty, what if lose my fair-haired beauty...).

DoubleDeuce -> RE: SPWAW Elimination Tournament (2/19/2004 10:17:04 AM)

Just a little FYI on this scenario.

Due to the map and little number of units involved many of you will find this to be a very short and bloody battle for at least one side, maybe both. Once your opponent has you against the wall or you him, things with escalate sharply. There will be almost no chance to recover and it will become a "take as many enemy with you as you can" situation.

For the Czechs, you need to kill as many Poles as you can before they cross the bridge. Once the Poles manage to get forces across the bridge, its lights out for the Czechs.

DoubleDeuce -> RE: SPWAW Elimination Tournament (2/25/2004 10:17:58 PM)

Even though we are still waiting for 3 games to finish and they actually have until March 2 to do so, I have decided to post for your viewing pleasure, the results so far. You can see them by visiting the main site at
WFHQ SPWAW Tournament

Remember, the 4 highest scores for both the attacker and the defender advance to Round 2.

VikingNo2 -> RE: SPWAW Elimination Tournament (2/26/2004 12:33:05 AM)

Man I should have looked into the HQ forum earlier, oh well looks like I will be out of this one[;)]

Wild Bill -> RE: SPWAW Elimination Tournament (2/26/2004 7:52:38 AM)

Competition looks pretty keen, Double D! I'll be anxiously awaiting the finals on the others. Thanks for the update.

DoubleDeuce -> Round 2 Details Released (2/28/2004 12:04:01 AM)

Round 2 will be an April 1, 1943 Nationalist China vs. Communist China Meeting Engagement using the winning "Best Medium Map" from the 2003 SPWAW Map Contest. The map is titled "Kobersdorf" and was designed by Fradar. Here you can find some screenshots. Forces on both sides will consist of Cavalry troops only and will last for 15 turns.

I have also updated the Tournament Website with more information.
