madhatter -> Hello and... question (2/18/2004 5:00:47 AM)

Hi there. I was thrilled today when I found this game as I was a big fan of the original Steel Panthers on DOS. Now I look forward to getting into this one as I'm a big fan of strategy and war games.

The FAQ link didn't work for me and the one at steelpanthersoline was of no help either. I was just wondering... is there a manual somewhere? The in-game tutorial didn't do anything for me either as it doesn't tutor me at all but just sets up a game. Since there are some differences between this and the old DOS game... a help file or manual or something would be nice to get me started. If someone could point me in the right direction, it would be much appreciated. TIA.

Oops... I forgot I recently reformatted and I didn't redownload adobe acrobat. I didn't notice the pdf file that says MANUAL next to it...[sm=00000734.gif]

Hi, Madhatter, and welcome to the community. If you look inside the main SPWaW folder, you will find a file called SPWaW-Manual. If you have a printer, print the whole thing out and put it in a loose-leaf binder. This was written for an older version, but the basic rules are unchanged. All the basics, tutorials and advanced technical material is there.
Now, many of the OOBs mentioned have had changes in succeeding versions, but most of what you need to know is contained in this PDF document.
Seriously--this is the SPWaW bible--read it cover to cover. Take your time, and don't let all the technical detail overwhelm you. This is a game--you're not studying for a test.
If you just want to get into playing, and are still unsure about any aspect of gameplay or tactics, then this the place to ask. We have only one rule--there are no dumb questions--this is a complex game, and we'll do our best to give you a concise answer.
Don't feel intimidated-- just have fun, and get the feel of what tactical combat during the WWII era was all about. Beware, though--this game can be very addictive once you get the hang of it. [;)]

Hi Madhatter, and welcome aboard!

I guess you've downloaded version 8.0.
In this version there is only the first general Tutorial, since the "special tutorials" covering specific aspects of the game were taken out (but you can still find the step by step guide to each of them inside the manual).
All these tutorials will be introduced back in the 8.2 patch we're working on, but if you want to have them now, so to get a better training, please send me a Private Message with your e-mail address, and I'll be keen to send them to you.

Resisti,
Could I also have the tutorials please? I was a big fan of the original SP but I'm finding it hard to get back to grips with the new version.

Thanks in advance,
Kevin
