Major_Johnson -> Old MC's in v8 (2/26/2004 8:34:52 PM)

I've been playing my MCNA in v8 for the past month without any really serious problems. But alexcraig brought to my attention something that might be of interest to The Powers To Be. He has had been playing MCLV in v8 and noticed that crews that have bailed out of vehicles are not able to pop smoke, even though the smoke button is active. He has sense resorted to playing MCLV in 7.1. And I found that to be the same case for MCNA. Does anyone know a reslove for this is ever going to be part of a patch?? Thanks.

I believe that this is the reason, taken from the 8.0 OOB text document, dated 12-3-2003 :

Crew unit weapons in slot one were deleted and moved to weapon slot two. This prevents
crews from being game cheat smoke screens. When crews bail out from their units, they may
or may not have weapons in slot two. This adds to realism

And yet, the crews can fire smoke if directed by the game to do so. Like when they are fired upon and retreat? So if the game can make my crews do it, then why can't I?? Somehow I just don't see how crews making smoke is cheating. Allot of times it's the only way to get them the time they need to get back in the vehicle.

IIRC this can only work if the unit has at least one smoke grenade remaining.
So if the unit has no smoke ammo left and must retreat, it simply retreats without firing smoke.
