A question I have that I have yet to see answered is this: The IJN starting off have CV-based fighters and bombers with superior range to those of the Allies. The ideal situation for the IJN then would be to stand off from the Allied CV's far enough so that their air groups are out of range, but still close enough to reach the Allied CV's with the IJN attack planes. IIRC, this would be a range of 8-9 hexes. Despite repeated attempts to maneuver into this position in both PBEM and AI games, however, I have yet to accomplish it - the Allied CV's always seem to end up close enough to hit back. Now, I know that some of this is luck based upon any number of factors including the choice of route of the two TF's, TF commanders, reaction settings, weather, etc. However I wanted to know what tricks that IJN commanders employed to accomplish a "strike with impunity".
