EricLarsen -> Interstellar Standoffs 2.20 (3/5/2004 6:34:32 PM)

After spending an hour and a half getting the download I was disappointed that there was no mention of interstellar standoffs being fixed. I'm not interested in modding the game to add ship pictures or change labels as I thought what the game provided was just fine and dandy with me even if it didn't have Star Trek or Star Wars ships. Adding the option for AI's to federate was a nice addition, but still not enough for me to actually unzip the 2.20 patch to play the game. After getting interstellar standoffs to show up and be seen easily by being prompted to watch them as they appear it was disappointing to find that they all hit the same default target regardless of where I actually fired them. Plus watching a bunch of IS shots disapppear as their target city gets blown up, only to reappear again right away without any more incoming IS to fret about wasn't fun. Interstellar standoffs were my favorite feature and until that is made to work properly I just won't bother playing SUDG. The other thing to fix is the scoring as that affects how the AI's play. As long as hoarding cash generates the most victory points the AI's will always be pathetic as they mistakenly think they are doing well on the victory point screen by hoarding cash when in fact they are getting their behinds dusted as I keep investing in more and better ships and better infrastructure. Investing in better ships and infrastructure should generate more victory points than cash sitting idly in the bank and until scoring is corrected to reflect this the AI's will always be a day late and a ship short when combat begins. I hope that there will be a 2.3 patch that will fix interstellar standoffs and scoring as SUDG is basically a fun little game marred by two huge bugs. Eric
