Juggernaut -> bug report (5/23/2000 8:13:00 PM)

Played a scenario (as the Japansese vs. US Army. Here's what I think u will find weird, I destroyed 2 Shermans (dont remember the exact type) with a few Jap 13.2mm MG hits! Both kills were from side turret (not 100% sure) hits from a nearby hill distance was 3 or 4 hexes.

look to see if the mg has any armor penetration. I don't mean AP shot I mean specifically armor penetration. The unit screen shows all armor penetrations for guns, and often HE fire has a rating as well. I think it likely that the Shermans weren't destroyed, but that the crew bailed instead. Also, it's not terribly unusual for soem of the mg's to have armore penetration numbers, as it seems the .50 cal. US mg's do and it seems the Russian 12.7mm does. If the gun is truly 13.7mm it's not a small mg shell.

Juggernaut, is it possible you got top hits? That 13.2 mm MG does have some AP capability but just about every other surface of a Sherman is so thick that the penetration seem impossible. As you were firing from top of a hill... Voriax

We worked on a heavy machine gun to cause suspension or track damage, but rarely a kill. I have played a number of Japanese versus other countries and have not seen this as yet. That is not denying your experience, but I am wondering if it is an isolated incident. A 13mm MG is pretty heavy, about 55 caliber I think. That could, as Voriax has said, with a height advantage possibly penetrated the top of the Shermans. I'd be very interested in knowing if this continues. Which scenario was it Juggernaut, generated scenario or one already in the game? Wild Bill ------------------ Wild Bill Wilder Coordinator, Scenario Design Matrix Games
