DerSchwarzeMann -> Requirments dont mach up... (3/21/2004 3:00:12 AM)

I went to Ebgames.com to see the prices for this game and what date its coming out it comes out. Turns out it caosts 69.99$[:@]!!! Is this right? Later i went to the games website to see the requirments. Turns out you only need 500 MB of space on the hard drive, so that means the game isnt deep, the video card needs to have at least 4mb, and the processor speed isnt even in the g's. Later i even read what the features are. They say you get an overview shot of the map and you can see every plane boat, etc... Is my english really bad cause im foreign or can someone explain to me whats goin on with the prices,features,requirments... I hear the game is also very long. You serious? 100+ hours, one turn? Well...then, anyway, back to the topic, how does battle take place? You just drag a hex to the enemy hex in order to fight? Whats the battle engine in this game? I know i sound quite retarded but its the process of getting to know the game

Don't believe them. There's only one correct piece of information here: the game will cost 70 bucks American. EB posts all kinds of rubbish, including info from far outdated manufacturer information (the half a gig size thing comes from the very first "games in development" post that appeared on the Matrix forums two years ago).

It looks to me that Matrix/2by3 have tried to keep the technological requirements to a minimum, in terms of processor speed, but you will still need something approaching 1 gig/P3 to play this thing. I can't imagine this game coming in at 500 megs in size. My guess is that 2 gigs is going to be far closer to the truth.

You can't see every boat and plane. What you see on the strategic map is icons that represent the strength present in that hex.

It's not your English that's at fault. It's the ridiculous misinformation provided by this lousy merchandiser.

Ignore EB, on a good day, they might get the name spelled correctly. The specs you are reading on the site have not been updated. The game is still being developed.

The campaign files containing all the information about every unit that existed in the entire Pacific war only requires 7 megs of disk space. Do not make the mistake of equating disk space to content. They have little to do with each other.

As far as the price, who really knows what it will be when the game is ready ... If they want $199 for it, it will still be reasonable for a game that will last you 5+ years to play.

crusher -> RE: Requirments dont mach up... (3/21/2004 3:29:54 AM)

if that is what you say then matrix is a lousy merchant because that is the requirments on there own web page for witp. your probably right and those requirments will change before the game is released

Jeeze, what is it with people these days? [:@]

You can either have developers working on code, or updating meaningless text on web sites that is subject to change at anytime as development proceeds. Personally, I tend to prefer them working on the code as it means the game will ship.

DerSchwarzeMann -> RE: Requirments dont mach up... (3/21/2004 3:43:19 AM)

I would blame Gamespot for the mishap on information on witp. All info comes from gamespot, even purchases, so dont blame EB, but you have a point[:-]

crusher -> RE: Requirments dont mach up... (3/21/2004 3:46:03 AM)

your right but take it easy some people are just a little impatient to know if there system will be good enough to handle this game. as for price that was a subject of a long thread already. you of course are right finish the game then worry about updating the witp web site

If you can run Airborne Assault: Highway to the Reich, you'll be fine.

So if you want to be sure, run out and buy a copy to test your machine [:D]

You better also start saving your money for a good pair of boots, because this game IS REAL DEEP![;)]

EZ, my friend. If you maintain a Web site that purports to provide information to customers, it ought to be current and accurate - and Matrix's is neither.

Developers should not maintain the site. Support staff should.

Airboarn Asault Highway to the Reich is a lot of fun, I am very happy I got it, I cant wait for the Creet update:)

siRkid -> RE: Requirments dont mach up... (3/21/2004 3:17:50 PM)

This is not like a first person shooter or an RTS. I've posted a lot of screen shots that you can find on this board. There are no wiz-bang 3-D graphics and explosions. This game is about strategy and historical accuracy. It is true that the first turn of the grand campaign can take as many as six hours to complete but there are many small scenarios that can be played quickly. It has been estimated that a PBEM game of the entire war can take anywhere from 1 to 3 years to complete. I don’t find this a problem. In fact I think this is a plus. I’ve got a UV game going right now that has lasted 6 months and we are only on turn 100.

When you think about the size of the game and the amount of playing time you will get out of it, the price is a good deal. If you don’t like historically accurate, turn-based war games that require a lot of planning and thinking, then I do not recommend this game for you. However, if you want a game that will make you check your e-mail every 15 minutes to see if your next turn has come in because your dieing to find out the results of your latest attack, then this game is for you.

I’ve had as many as 4 PBEM games going at once.

dwesolick -> RE: Requirments dont mach up... (3/21/2004 3:50:05 PM)

As an old PacWar fan, and a current UV fanatic, it's my opinion that WitP will be the GAME OF THE AGES (you can copyright that, if you like[8D]). A price tag of $70 is a BARGAIN. Um.....Matrix please disregard that last part[;)].

I'm just hoping for a release this summer....EARLY summer, if you please. I'm a community college instructor and I have summer's (pretty much) off so let's go Matrix! I'm hoping to be preparing my invasion of the Gilberts by the time fall semester starts. I know, I know...I'm not holding my breath.

Subchaser -> Easy calculations (3/22/2004 10:55:53 AM)

Price for WitP is 70$, you’ll be enjoying this game for two years at least, full ’41-’46 pbem campaign is obvious choice for those who don’t like compromise variants, 1200 or so turns long campaign, with a pace of 2 turns a day it will take more than 2 years, thus every day of WitPing costs approximately 0,10 cents, and that’s a deal.

Xargun -> RE: Easy calculations (3/22/2004 8:21:09 PM)

I have been waiting a decade for this game, ever since first experiencing Gary's PacWar. PacWar was great, but not indepth enough for me :) I have been anxiously awaiting WitP since I heard Matrix was making it. As for the pricetag it won't matter to me - just that the higher it is, the longer i have to wait to buy it once its released..
As for requirements... I don't see needing a high-power processor to run it.. I have a crappy 500 MHz and it runs UV just fine and I think it will run WitP fine too.. May be a bit slow at some calculations, but the high-power processers really only matter on graphic-intensive games (like first person shooters).
I cannot wait... and I hope Matrix allows pre-ordering and will ship directly to me... So I don't have to wait a month or more for local stores to stock it...
