does this game have online capabilities, because i read somewhere that you get results form your turn via e-mail, doesnt that get a little confusing? If it does it would be nice (if the game doesn't have this feature already) to have your own personal email adress @warinthepacific.com and you can read it in the game[&o][&o][:)][8D][;)] + having the ability to play people overr the interenet, although you would have to be good friends, enough to last you five years. haha[:'(]

By "on-line" I take it you mean TCP Ip? Well the answer is no. You can either play via E-mail (you set your orders then save the game and send it to your opponent who then opens the file and runs the turn, watches the combat and does his orders then sends the file back to you .....you open it and watch the combat...which is the same as he saw...then do your orders and send it back) or you can play against the AI.

It is not confusing at all and infact is very simple. Also if you play against people within you time zone, you can get a few turns back and forward in the same night !

Due to the complex nature of the turns (the IJN first turn in the campaign scen is a monster and you can expect to spend at leat 8 hours on this first turn alone, the allied player will spend about 2 to 4 hours on his first turn...after the first 6 or so turns you should be able to run through the orders in about an hour or so) having your opponent sitting on-line waiting for you to execute a turn would be about as exciting as watching paint dry.
The IGO UGO WEGO format is not one that lends itself readily to TCP IP play.

And yes playing someone via Email is an excellent way of meeting people and making new friends. I now have a large number of people over the world whom I now consider good mates. In fact I am off to Hawiaii this August to vist one ![8D]

where do you get all this information form, other gamers? If so, where do they get it from? Do you own UV?

bilbow -> RE: Will this game be online enabled? (3/22/2004 4:03:23 AM)

I'd be surprised if anyone on the forum didn't own UV. I've been playing it since it came out almost 2 years ago. Best game I've found, and WITP promises to be even better.

If you have yet to play UV I highly recomend it, it is an excelent game, and I too am still playing it after almost 2 years, mostly aganst folks I know from a Flight sim I have been playing for several years with, a curent apont is from England, were 8 hours apart and we still get on average two turns a weekday and 4 to 5 on sunday, but as mentioned above players in or near your time zone are best. UV was all over the Bulton Board for AH for a long time lots of folks got it and were playing it, and many still are.

soeren -> RE: Will this game be online enabled? (3/22/2004 10:18:05 AM)

Hey,
DerSchwarzeMann, you seem a little bit confused about WITP and how it is played. What games do you play now or have played the last few years. Maybe there is some game to compare WITP with, wich would make explaining a lot of easier.

DerSchwarzeMann -> RE: Will this game be online enabled? (3/22/2004 2:34:26 PM)

Soeren, i have played a demo to highway to reich, which wasnt the best choice, but it gave me a chance to see what Matrixgames does. I played alot of that 2 hour war game crap like rise of the nations and command and conquer, the reason i seem a bit confused is because i just saw this game in EBgames, and went on this site like 3 days ago to find out more info, thats why i joined this forum, thats why im asking questions. By the way, this game is a tough strtegy long game (5 years) and it will be a great opppurtunity form me to have a real life simulation of whats going on. Im countin down the days till witp will come out![&o][&o][&o][&o][&o]

bilbow -> RE: Will this game be online enabled? (3/23/2004 2:40:40 AM)

DSM, calling Rise of Nations and C&C wargames is a lot of your confusion. I'd call them strategy games, maybe, but there's no history to speak of in them. A wargame to me must be based on history, and be as true to the historical situation faced by the real commanders as possible. UV and WITP are just that.

UV is a great game, the best WARgame I've found in 30+ years of gaming. Try it while you are waiting for WITP. WITP will be similar, just a whole lot bigger.

Enjoy

Point Luck -> RE: Will this game be online enabled? (3/23/2004 2:58:27 AM)

Hey DerSchwarzeMann

I highly recommend investing in UV, I also have been playing UV for almost two years STEADY. Master UV and WiTP will be much easier to play. Last 6 months we've been playing with a modified scenario just to get used to handling large Navies and Air Forces. I've been wargaming for Thirty years and I had to wait that long to find an almost perfect WWII game.

Luskan -> RE: Will this game be online enabled? (3/23/2004 3:49:09 AM)

And the best thing I can tell you about WITP is that it is so much bigger, so different and so evolved from UV, that now that I have both (well, an Alpha of WITP - although it works pretty damned well) I'm now addicted to both.

UV just doesn't get old (especially since after a few years your opponents are usually as crafty and evil as you are . . .).

Having a nail biter with Crocky at the moment. Bloody kiwi just doesn't know when to admit he's conquered.[:D]
