Mangudai -> Abandoned vehicles (4/4/2004 2:58:48 AM)

Sometimes crewmen panic and bailout of their vehicle leaving it abandoned. The manual says that they can reoccupy the vehicle if they are in the same hex and pass a moral check. I've seen the AI do this, but I have never been able to do it.

How do you get the crewmen back in their vehicle?

Mangudai:

Let your crew hang out in the same hex as their vehicle for a turn or so, and they'll re-mount.
But only if they're un-suppressed.
I think that covers it, if not someone else will add to the discussion.

it doesn't hurt to use a little smoke around the crew also, if they are not shot at suppression is lower....

The only thing about that chief, is quite frequently when a unit lays smoke, they draw fire their way, so I guess you got pull the ring off the canister, toss it and hope for the best![:(]

And;

If you lose a member of the crew (check for damage in the unit info screen if you're not sure) they will not reoccupy the vehicle.

It is usually at that time they're transferred to the Suicide Recon unit. [:D]

Capt. Pixel -> RE: Abandoned vehicles (4/4/2004 9:18:04 PM)

After they've bailed, set their range to '0'. This should allow them to 'disappear' and make them less likely to draw fire. This is always a good idea. Especially when the crew bail without any weapons or smoke.

They need to be in the same hex as their abandoned vehicle. Crews will not man any vehicle other than their original assignment. They can leave and return to an abandoned vehicle and still re-mount.

They should re-mount the vehicle after they've reduced their suppression enough to allow movement. I'm certain that I've had wounded crews re-mount. I recall wondering how one crew member could shoot and move in one turn in a damaged tank. (Audey Murphyism, I guess)

Crews can re-man ATGs, AAAs and Arty. (any crewed weapon)

robot -> RE: Abandoned vehicles (4/5/2004 2:51:14 PM)

Had a crew jump out yesterday. As soon as i could i had him retreat out of harms way. About 3 turns later i got him back to his tank. After bailing out they lost one crew member. When i got him back to his tank it took 2 turns i believe and the tank was ready to go again. Believe it or not but this happened to me.

Wuotan -> RE: Abandoned vehicles (4/6/2004 4:45:12 PM)

Yep, robot, have seen it, too. But you will notice the missing crew-member. In my case
the main-gun wasn´t available after they got in again... must have been the gunner.

It´s a GREAT GAME!

robot -> RE: Abandoned vehicles (4/6/2004 7:54:16 PM)

Same here wouton. Main gun wasnt active. Guess the enemy targets them first on a bail out.

What, do they bail out wielding a large bright orange sign saying "I'M THE GUNNER!" [:D]

No, infact. [:)]
What happened to Wuotan and Robot, is that the tank suffered a major damage, which made its crew to bailout, and the damege was that the main gun had been destroyed.
Spwaw doesn't count for specific roles in weapons/vehicles crews.

arethusa -> RE: Abandoned vehicles (4/19/2004 3:36:25 PM)

Another tactic that can be used is to intentionally bail out of a vehicle.

What this does is make it so that your opponent can't destroy the vehicle from a distance. It also won't show up as an enemy in sight. Then, when the danger is past, reboard the crew by staying in the same hex.

An opponnet used this on me once by moving a jeep up to a good position for recon, and then bailing out. The jeep was in a place that I couldn't get to for several turns to be able to destroy it by being in the same hex and I coudn't shoot the jeep because it was abandoned. Meanwhile, I presume that the crew was off spotting for his artillery or something and I couldn't find them. A few turns later, the jeep was gone.
