UndercoverNotChickenSalad -> how to cut machinegun fire make the game run faster (4/5/2004 10:28:55 PM)

Hi.

I know there is someting I can add to the shortcut something like - impatient or something like that so the game will only play 1 machinegun firing, or the main tank gun, and so on. These guns still fire it just doesn't show it.

Can someone refresh my memory plz as to what the line is that needs to be added to the mech.exe ? Forum search yeilded nothing.

thx. [&o]

Nevermind I got it.

__Creeper__ -> RE: how to cut machinegun fire make the game run faster (4/6/2004 8:50:59 PM)

Can you post it for everyone else? The part that bothers me about this game the most is telling my infintry to fire off their shots at the enemy, it takes forever to fire off most of the shots of an infintry squad, well, atleast it feels like forever when there is alot of fighting going on at once.

UndercoverNotChickenSalad -> RE: how to cut machinegun fire make the game run faster (4/7/2004 9:04:36 PM)

Sure creeper. Make a shortcut on the desktop to Mech.exe, right click on it, click properties. The target box will say something like: (from memory IIRC): "c:\matrixgames\steelpanthers\mech.exe" add "impatient"

so it'll look like this: "c:\matrixgames\steelpanthers\mech.exe" impatient

it takes forever to fire off most of the shots of an infintry squad

Yap it takes forever. Adding impatient will make the game much nicer for ya :) It also works w/ the tanks, all ya gotta do is watch the main gun fire, the machineguns fire too but you don't have to twiddle your thumbs watching it.

Take care, brah.

__Creeper__ -> RE: how to cut machinegun fire make the game run faster (4/10/2004 12:26:38 AM)

doesnt seemed to have worked, am I supposed to put the new shortcut file somewhere or leave it on the desktop? this is for Steel panthers "World at war" right??

one more thing, when your troops are spotted, it has an * by Ready, like this "Ready*" and the soldiers no longer move far in each turn, can I turn off this effect?

anything that speeds up this game is better.

KG Erwin -> RE: how to cut machinegun fire make the game run faster (4/10/2004 12:54:58 AM)

Speeds up? You want SPWaW to play like a FPS game? Jeez, guys, I turn fast artillery off. I want to hear the bombardments, preferably at battlefield volume. I want immersion into the battle, but to each his own. I love hearing the weapons firing--this is all part of the fun. We have all these wonderful sounds in the game, and you guys want to skip over them?[&:] Nah, that may work for you, but not for me.

UNCS! Thanks!! Awesome tip!!

KG Erwin -> RE: how to cut machinegun fire make the game run faster (4/10/2004 1:22:22 AM)

Ok, I tried it out, and it does work for squad-level arms, BUT, artillery and mortar fire slowed down. I won't be using this, but some others may prefer it, if fast arty is set to ON. Nevertheless, UNCS, you did a fine job in stumbling upon this shortcut.

__Creeper__ -> RE: how to cut machinegun fire make the game run faster (4/10/2004 2:28:54 AM)

I also prefer Fast artillery "OFF" and I do like to hear guns fireing, I just wish I could hit the "fire at current target" button really rapidly and go threw all of their shots real fast,

but you have to wait so long for them to go threw 6 or 7 vollies, let alone 6 or 7 vollies each for 30 or 40 infintry squads and half tracks fireing on one turn.

what should be 30 seconds of real life battle time, turns into 3 days.

as for the "eyes on" thing, if they are spotted I will likly know it, and if I see fit I will have them move fewer hexes for caution. besides, suppression points will take care of slowing them down

KG Erwin -> RE: how to cut machinegun fire make the game run faster (4/10/2004 2:40:46 AM)

Ok, creeper, I know what you're wanting--simultaneous volleys by all weapons--this would be great, but in the SPWaW engine, it's just not possible. Also, simultaneous fire by all units eligible for op fire would be great, but can't be done. The game's engine can't be stretched much further from the original code, so we have to deal with this antiquated system as is, but it's still a d amn good game system, quirks and all.

Svennemir -> RE: how to cut machinegun fire make the game run faster (4/10/2004 3:13:40 AM)

Hmm. I think it is possible to accelerate firing very much without altering the game code. Someone just has to get some new animations for bullets and explosions that last a very short time. Then the game will not wait while the animation plays, and everyone will be happy. If only someone knows how to edit the animations we can make a test.

Nope thats not what I mean at all.

I mean, I should be able to fire with one infintry squad, and then before the animation finishes, I should be able to pull the trigger again and again with the same squad without waiting for the fire animation to finish, with one fire order overlapping the other, only the last fire order given to that squad should be completly displayed and heard in full, if I give the order rapidly enough.

So for example, as the game is now, I give fire order to C3 infintry squad,

C3 fires: blam blam blam curherherherher ratatat tat bahoom.

that uses up 1 op fire out of six or seven, I must watch this 6 or 7 times to use up all of the op fire for just one squad.

the way I would have the game is this,

C3 fires: blam blam bla "click" blam blam "click" blam bla "click" blam blam blam "click" blam blam "click" blam blam blam "click" blam blam blam curherherherher ratatat tat bahoom.

all opfires for C3 are used up, and C3 may fire no more shots this turn.

__Creeper__ -> RE: how to cut machinegun fire make the game run faster (4/10/2004 4:40:15 AM)

oh and one more thing that really bothers me, is when I give a move order to a half track or tank, and the screen locks onto it and drags the screen wherever that vehicle drives.

that disorients me, and makes it harder to move large formations, as I keep haveing to get my bearings back after each move, I sometimes zoom out to make these moves, that way the screen doesnt get jerked around and mess me up, but I dont like zooming in and out all the time, and its harder to see whats going on from way up there, it would just make it a little more convenient if the screen didnt follow the moveing tank.

the stratagie and realism of this game and so many other factors make this such a great game, I think its only these little things with the interface causing time consuming monotony that keep more peaple from getting into it.

IRC in an earlier version of SP-WAW or maybe it was the SP original, you could press the fire button x number of times and the unit would fire x number of vollies until it fired all its vollies 1,2,3,4,5 etc. Truthfully I did not understand why they took this out... I really liked it.

Fire all shots (shift-fire) (right-click on the fire icon) was last seen in SP3 IIRC...

FNG -> RE: how to cut machinegun fire make the game run faster (4/12/2004 1:56:01 PM)

In SP3 you could set each unit to fire all available shots. IMHO this gives the human player an unfair advantage, as you could hammer a target 5 or 6 times without taking any Op fire until you had finished firing. Quite often, especially with tank squads, you would wipe out an enemy unit without it firing back - to me this was a game breaker.

Across the board I felt it gave a significant enough advantage to almost be in the 'exploit' category, but obviously was put there for a reason.

__Creeper__ -> RE: how to cut machinegun fire make the game run faster (4/13/2004 10:54:40 PM)

just wanna remind anyone reading this thread, that Im not asking to be able to fire all available shots in a row without an enemy response like in steel panthers 3

Jamminji -> RE: how to cut machinegun fire make the game run faster (4/14/2004 12:32:57 AM)

Yes It was SP3. SP3 did not have an OP fire routine I believe. I guess auto fire was in conflict with the new OP fire in WAW. If I had to choose between auto fire and the OP fire option I would pick OP fire every time! It is a shame that they both could not be in the game. IE; I hit the right click to auto fire all my shots at a target and OP fire comes in when it comes in... Example; My fire 1, OP fire 1, My fire 2, my fire 3, OP fire 2, My fire 4, OP fire 4, OP fire 5, OP fire 6... Etc. My fire would stop if I got supressed to the point that I had no more shots. I would then rally and re-right click to continue autofire, or left click as I choose.

Auto fire is actually a cheat because it has it flaw, when use auto fire, SPWAW tested it and that this function refuse to let the enemy return fire as such it was taken out.

Well I actually need a button that can on and off my main gun whilst playing on screen, I know that you can use the right click or spacebar key and use H key but I perfer to have on and off the main gun button or key whilst playing.

But the most important of all is I still cant find a button to stop playing SPWAW.

__Creeper__ -> RE: how to cut machinegun fire make the game run faster (4/15/2004 8:31:13 PM)

still a totally diffrent issue than what I talked about, to put it most simply, I want to be able to click fire rapidly and blow threw all my shots real fast untill my opponent buts in with an opfire, then continue.

Jamminji -> RE: how to cut machinegun fire make the game run faster (4/16/2004 1:32:49 AM)

Maybe I am misunderstnding you, but what you describe is exactly what I was explaining sp3 did. The problem was that when they introduced the OP fire they found that when you did the "rapid" fire it dis-allowed any OP fire. Therefore that had to choose 1) Ripid fire/no OP fire or 2) OP fire/no Rapid fire.

At least that is the way I understand it.

__Creeper__ -> RE: how to cut machinegun fire make the game run faster (4/18/2004 1:15:27 AM)

oh, I didnt know it was rapid in sp3, Iv only played World at war, sorry bout that.

To bad you couldnt have the best of both worlds, rapid fire as fast as you can left click, interupted only breifly by opfire.

Major Destruction -> RE: how to cut machinegun fire make the game run faster (4/18/2004 5:54:16 AM)

you could try setting your message delay to 0 or XXX. That will speed up the game fo you.

UndercoverNotChickenSalad -> RE: how to cut machinegun fire make the game run faster (6/27/2004 12:06:16 AM)

Ok, I tried it out, and it does work for squad-level arms, BUT, artillery and mortar fire slowed down.

If u use impatient, turn fast artillery off.

Jackk -> RE: how to cut machinegun fire make the game run faster (6/27/2004 7:33:55 PM)

For kicks I treid the impatient mode and it's not so bad. I still see the messages and results of the secondary weapons, but I don't have to watch the animations. Very handy.

However I did notice that it did not work on my H2H install. Does that jive with everyone else's experience?
