generalrichmond -> ftp.edome.net - I MUST vent !! (10/20/2001 5:59:00 AM)

How, oh how many times has that unstable server cut off my GetRight program?!? How many DAYS will it take me to download this v5.01 file? Leave it on overnight - it gets cut off. Leave it on today during work - it gets cut off. I have a single phone line w/o voice mail and the modem is set to NOT answer. So ftp.edome.net - here's to you - ppppffffffffffffttt!!! >:-P Sorry - I had to let that go. I am just antsy to get this game. Wish I'd have done the other URL now. I have a mere 56k modem. On a more genteel note, will there be an update of the game manual for v7.0? Thanks to all with the 800x600 suggestion. I'll give that a whirl and will also upgrade to Adobe 5.0.... Thanx! PS> Memories, oh memories. Once again, HURRY UP AND WAIT...

Some options exist: 1) Buy megacampaign NA and get 6.x 2) send your address to brad.darroch@trw.com and I will put a CD in the mail for you then we can start an Old Dominion SPWAW club... Cheers.

Vejgaard - I knew it would take another Dane to understand the pain.. Darroch - good deal on the CD. I'd have jumped on it, but am getting Lost Victories in the near future so I'll have a CD. That would have been cool, however. It should finish d/l about 2am... I'll set the alarm for 3am and start up! Kidding..

Hi, Richmond Check this site, It works pretty good. ftp://ftp.sunet.se/pub/pc/games/gamesdomain/shareware I downloaded SPWAW 5.01 from there with a 33K modem in some days. You also better get a FTP client with resume capability, because download all the file in one single session is pretty difficult. Some programs with resume capability:
CuteFTP32 for Windows.
Wget for Unix/Linux (I think it's also for Windows). Bye

General Richmond: Back on V1.0 I downloaded this game from a 56k modem, nowadays however I gave a cable modem. One thing I found that kept my ISP from shutting me down back then, was leaving another window up at the same time. This window, back then was tuned to this site: http://www.saint-mike.org/ and my download went by some 36 hours uninterrupted by the ISP. I'm not sure why it fools the ISP, but my theory is that the additional window left up needs to have a news ticker on it. The website I mentioned earlier had one back then, but it doesn't now, so I'm not sure if that website would still accomplish the same or not, but of course if the theory is true it will not. BTW, I also didn't use GetRight, but instead was using Download Demon, if that matters (the ISP had shut me down using DD too, before I ended up leaving a window for that website up as well, which, as I said had a news ticker back then).

Thanks, all. I used GetRight and it took me 21 hours on a 56k. I closed everything down and just minimized the GetRight program into the icon tray. Let it d/l at night and while I was at work. All in all, it didn't bump off again.
