As a disclaimer, right now I will say that not all of the suggested changes in the OOB thread were implemented. I anticipate some complaints, but that's to be expected.
However, I request that comments be made in the "new improved 8.1 OOB" thread, which I will rename once 8.2 is released.
Any questions regarding changes should be directed to that thread.

Which means we could see an 8.3?

Its like we are chasing our own tails...

It depends on how you look at it. Even if every request made went into the patch, it'd still have gamers calling for an upgrade/change.

You can't make it perfect.

Exactly
So 8.2 should be the last nail in the coffin so to speak. Let the poor game be.

One more question?
Is 8.2 going to be a patch too?
Ill be damned if I have to install the whole program and all the MC's over again
Its such a pain in the ass

No, but you can come close![;)]

Hmmmm....well, the lack of any official response is leading me to believe that the end of the month was overly optomistic...and that we won't be seeing 8.2 as soon as we had hoped. [:(]

having returned to spwaw after a prolonged absence I'm sorry to see what looks like most designers holed up in the bottleneck caused by 8.2...

It's also saddening to me to see so many players have flown the coop for waiting (ref Gary Tatro's mail on the pbem world championship) It doesn't seem the same place to me anymore and where once Matrix encouraged everyone and this place had a real vibe so many of the real hardcore seem very disillusioned and divided over modifications and delays.

I've personally known the SP series since working for Mindscape / SSI 10 years ago and have seen it go through many ups and downs, hopefully it'll go back up again but Matrix please treat your customer base with a little more respect.

As somebody who's been away and come back I think I can claim a little objectivity and the management of the forum is way below what it used to be [:-]

Don't worry with the release of 8.2 I'm sure things will get hot around here once again, real hot!![sm=00000003.gif]

KG Erwin -> RE: Hey Gunny... (5/1/2004 1:12:28 AM)

Hellcat, I regard myself as hardcore. After all, I was on the 8.2 development team and volunteered to take on the moderator job. Any delays in the patch are due to one thing--we want to be sure that it's ready for release to the public, without the need for subsequent patches to the patch. This is because of Matrix' stance on giving the SPWaW community the best service it can render, which means that patches won't be rushed into release. Barring any extraordinary problems or glitches, 8.2 will be the final Matrix update to SPWaW, so extra care is being taken on this. Bear with us.

hellcat -> RE: Hey Gunny... (5/1/2004 1:37:24 AM)

I appreciate the extra care being taken and know from experience it's better to not release a version, let alone what sounds like a final version (I'll come to that in a moment...) than to release it due to 'other' pressures (internal or external) rather pointing out that it does seem to be causing a bottleneck in terms of scenario design and other mods.

Are you saying 8.2 will be the final version? What does 'Final Matrix update' mean? No patching from hereafter? What support will there be for SPWAW if there are no planned updates?

The support will come from dedicated designers and players who will add to SPWaW's legacy. This is a classic game engine which will be kept alive for years to come. There are many battles and campaigns yet to be covered. To say that Matrix is done with SPWaW isn't entirely correct. The OOBs are pretty much finalized, but this is a game that still has much to offer. SPWaW is a permanent part of the Matrix game family and support for this game will continue.
