ok so we had map problems with the last game and funkiwis russkies took quite a beating [:D] so now I'm the russkies and funkiwi gets to play the US forces... it's low vis again 12 and snow, Dec '45 and 5000 points to play with 10% arty & 2 air sections... The Glorious peoples revolutionary army is on the move, no sign of any trouble. It's a big map that would be quite open if not for the Vis issue, however there's plenty of hills, forest at least 1 town and a big graveyard... It's a meeting engagement...

Funkiwis Russkies took quite a beating?? [sm=terms.gif] There were the squads of sappers that were about cut loose on your back end. Having said that, us Russkies have been pounded into submission. Я хочу пить! (Ya khochu pit' = I want a drink!) Anyway, new game now. The Red Army is boldy advancing with its MBTs through the centre, and cavalry and MBTs are advancing on our right flank. They show little regard for the rapid fire support capabilities of the US and they're taking a hammering. No recon, no smoke, too much vodka, what's going on? [X(]

funkiwis planes (mustangs) just did a good job of wasting some of the glorious peoples revolutionary equipment... commissars will not be happy about this... [:-] There was a smoke mission planned it just came in a little late... commissars are defintely not happy about this! [:-] We discover some snipers and recon in the south and wipe the fascist imperialists out thanks to the glorious peoples revolutionary cavalry! we advance through the snow...

Yessiree it was a mustang stampede! [sm=00000028.gif] Nevermind the rangers that were about to infiltrate to that exact position (whoops, forgot about them) [:-] US tanks are in hiding, making sudden entrances to pop off the odd Russky MBT before vanishing into the snow. SO infantry are coping a few rounds. I see they're sending the cannon fodder in. Won't worry too much about them. [:D] Lightning has struck! Poor little horsies. Please don't tell animal welfare about that one. SO cavalry and a T-34 has been straffed by a Lightning a/c. Will lightning strike twice? Look daddy, pink snow. [;)] Don't you just love being American? I can see why. [:D]

Pershings taken pot shots at the glorious tanks of the revolution? [:-] something will be done about that! more smoke falls we advance further still mainly skirmishing with enemy recon. Despite the low vis hilltops are a little too exposed for our liking... The big town in the North looks like it will become a battlefield...

Looks like the reds are starting to spot our arty. A few bombs dropping close by, some shrapnel damage but nothing major. 2 recon troops KIA after one squad was assualted by a halftrack and an SMG squad, another by a T-34 and a cavalry squad. Smoke and retreat worked well and arty responded swiftly. Enemy sappers fell into our infiltrator trap, but not before ending the life of one brave American [sm=00000939.gif] Enemy sappers smote. Komi shells are falling on the township. We think they're just guessing coz the only damage was a refugee family. The enemy seems obsessed with hilltops and victory hexes. Static is building. Hear the crackle. Smell the ozone. Dig snow caves, men. There's an ominous hum in the air.

I lose two (count em! [:@]) of my air attack but not before knocking out one of the US mobile arty... otherwise only a small firefight with an enemy MG unit positioned overlooking a road... our arty falls hard and so does theirs! we're still eating up ground so the enemy are probably attempting to lure us in...

An air raid by a couple of Shturms has bombed the crap out of a halftrack, but amazingly, it's still up and running. It hit back and did some damage, too. Unfortunately they incinerated one of our Priests. [:@] The war is rapidly becoming holy. The offending aircraft were promptly shot down by a combination of M15A1, 50cal AAMG and 37mm T32 fire (engineers gun). A Red halftrack and SMG assualted one of our forward 30cal MGs but failed to take it out. The crew held on long enough for a Pershing to come to the rescue. Sniper fire pushed back the SMG while the halftrack was left a smoldering ruins. One of our halftracks recovered the 30cal and took them to a safe house somewhere in the East (that'll confuse him). HEAVY arty rounds are falling on some of our forward positions with devastating effects. A retreat has begun. We tried to repel an infantry squad with engineers, but to no avail. A Pershing lunged forward and chased them away with an HE, and in doing so, drew fire from an OT-34 we hadn't noticed. The Russky tank missed, but the Pershing did not. One less red can taking up space. The merciless bastards hunted down the retreating recon squad in the South with cavalry and a tank and slaughtered them. Including the 3 recon troops and the arty crew, about 10 casualties this round. Too many to win the next election. [:D]

Ah the glorious peoples AA Flak section has shot down an imperialist mustang [8D] Pershings are problems for the moment... our arty falls on the town in the North and anywhere we spot a pershing... we chase down yet another recon in the south, cut to pieces by marauding cossacks... elections? [:-] we don't have any of those!

despite a rather effective American air attack on our arty we press forward, we kill 2 Pershings (one with a flame tank which also blew in the duel) and the other with an air attack... This is very good for morale! Our forces are beginning to enter the big town in the North which is infested with imperialists. In the south we can't seem to find any more enemy... [&:]

The Lightning air raid on SO arty did some damage and hopefully slowed down some of those heavy bombardments. It's pretty darn hard to hide Pershings and they're gradually getting picked off, but not without heavy cost to the reds, a couple more tanks down. The infiltrator trap worked well yet again. A sniper spotted the soviet sappers. 2 shots, 2 kills. Give that man a medal! [;)] The sappers were milling around, stunned, when a halftrack jumped upon them, finishing them off. Spotters are beginning to find nice juicy targets. I don't know how many more losses the reds can sustain, but they continue to assualt. We admire their courage.

oh we can sustain plenty more losses no problemski! The big town in the North appears to be held by a hardcore of rangers and the town is literally swarming with capitalist scum! Just ahead of the central VHs on the other side of a hill the American aggressors were building up a nice little force but since the loss of the Pershings we're now advancing into this area from many sides and toasting the infantry that remain... it's true we lost a unit of partisan sappers but how many more are there in your backfield? watching... waiting... In the South we've almost reached the edge of the map and encountering almost no resistance apart from an engineer unit that has been sent to hellski. Soon the fearless cossacks will sweep north to bring about the encirclement of the americanski aggressor... it's true we lost some tanks but all those 'tanks' are very cheap OT34 flame tanks, nothing much to worry about... we've not brought our real tanks into the fray yet! This is mainly an infantry force as the american imperialist is finding out [:D]

there's nothing but pain waiting for you in that town. [:D] Go ahead, waste your bombs (they sure are BIG!). [X(] a Soviet a/c destroyed one of my Shermans [:(] but at least it won't be happening again. aircraft downed by 50calAAG. [;)] A sneaky assualt on our rear through the south has been repelled. Can that horse meat for later. The reds must be biding their time with those 'expensive' tanks of theirs.

US Rangers are infiltrating! They will be stamped out... enemy planes continue to attack us! The town will be flattened, our arty continues to pour down onto the imperialists... expensive tanks! these are very slow... [:)]

The fascist imperialists in the Northern town are giving up ground, stunned by our arty no doubt. Rangers have not yet been dispatched and another air attack takes out some of my AA! [:-] one cavalry squadron are attempting to break through into the enemy rear area from the South while another squadron [X(] rides to support the town assault and stop by for an appointment with the Rangers also...

Our arty is performing a rolling barrage so we're only shifting a hex or two each turn and that keeps the delay down to a bare minimum of only 1 or 2. Despite the air attacks the peoples artillery section is performing well. The battle for the town has flushed a few more ranger teams out and we're also now attacking the rangers who have infiltrated our VH cluster. BUT... [X(] the big news is that The Cossacks are coming... They're coming up the back of the map (US side) from the South and are going to charge through the rangers on their way to the front... I need a cossack song to sing! [:'(]

A few headless horseman still roam about on our Southern flank, but they hardly pose a threat. Soviet forces continue their assualt on the town, but they're making little headway and probably only hold a few buildings on the outskirts. The battle for the central heights is a different story! A platoon of Rangers is valiantly defending the VH's. THey're under heavy fire and taking casualties, but they continue to hold fast. A sorty of a engineers, a halftrack and 2 Pershings, tried to reinforce them but ended up in a head to head firefight with 3 OT-34s! [8\|] They knocked out one and dented another, but they've taken hits themselves and it will take real courage to hold their ground. We haven't seen any of these so-called Cossacks yet - just a couple of ****ly Tachankas. We think they're bluffing, but we'll send in a fresh squadron of Pershings, just in case. [;)]

not bluffing imperialist infiltrator! waves of cossacks descend upon the Vh cluster sending rangers reeling back! We kill a Pershing on the nearby hill and put another under heavy pressure indeed. The southern cossacks are no few horsemen, it's true a platoon or so ran into some heavy duty capitalist flak guns but the rest are even now going around the back and storming northward into the enemy rear. Ride on cossacks! [:D] Unfortunately dastardly western air power has taken out one of our flame tanks and a lucky shot from materilistic imperial mortars destroyed another... never mind cossacks will soon be everywhere! [X(]

that's one way to lose pershings [:(] should've got out when i had the chance. rangers can't hold the centre for much longer, they're hitting us with everything. a rear guard halftrack and rangers went to intercept trespassing SO Cavalry and were shot at by a stealthy tank. a sherman and a flaktrack came to their aid but failed to take out the tank. it's a stand off.

Technically, they're not Cossacks, but they are Cavalry. One is more Ukrainian than the other.

Cavalry quite right, you spies must have told you that! The Cav charge away the Rangers in the central VH cluster making it good russian red again! And on, on they ride! In the south we flame a tank and the AA position and the cavalry rides on there too! where is that arty park?[:D]

Intelligence not required on that one. The last thing the Rangers said before I lost them was: "That ain't beetroot soup spilling out of them bullet holes!" Flamming bush and woe in snow! [:@] Lost a Sherman and an AA to flame and it hurts. [:-] Lost the central Vh's, about to lose more squads in that vacinity, too. The procession of eager young communists is endless. not so fast ameicanski [:-] cavalry are already within sight of the town and will soon be riding through the streets [X(] Southern Cav squadron encountering more resistance, wherever they go they seem to leave blood in the snow [:-] but there's still 3 flame tanks with them and they're tightening the noose around the decadent westerner neck. another air attack has taken out one of my only 4 actual tanks! [:-] he got his money worth outta them 2 air units for sure! One guy keeps coming back again and again [:(] ride cavalry ride on! [:D]

The Soviets have the numbers on us, have from the outset. Our intelligence was wrong - those flammin' flame tanks are portable WMDs!!! [sm=00000003.gif] We have paid dearly for our lack of intelligence. A Sherman gone, a Greyhound gone, another halftrack gone, sniper gone, engineers decimated... the list goes on. Red cavalry are everywhere! Their mobility and numbers give the Red Army a huge advantage. Our pilots have been flying superbly but they are few and far between and they're running out of bombs. We didn't realise the Reds could sustain such losses on their offensive; again, failed intelligence. They sure must be cheap! Where did all my money go? I wonder. [8\|]

oh yes comrade our troops are very cheap! This is my first time out with two cavalry squadrons and it really is quite amazing! However, I've come to learn here and even worse elsewhere (Jaminnji! [:@]) that they can easily be decimated if unsupported. We drop almost everything we've got onto the town this turn... In the rear the cavalry and flame tanks now supported by linked up mech infantry continue to mop up the enemy, but still not found the arty park.

An M7-Priest sent a flame tank to Hell! Little more than a consolation prize. The red army continues to search for our arty park. [:D] To the North, a small force breaks out of the town for a wee holiday in the snow. SO cavalry makes nice target practice for Pershing. Good way to keep the hands warm, too. That's good to know, hellcat. Very reassuring! You know, most of us here in the US are truly quite excited by the prospect of communism. In theory, it allows for a far more equitable future. Stalin is a great man! We have no doubt that accepting him as God will sustain us through the difficult times.
