JudgeDredd -> Korsun Pocket Steal?? (4/21/2004 3:40:31 PM)

Just saw Korsun Pocket in GAME store for £4.99!!

I realise this must be a steal for a turn based fan - so just giving the heads up.

Otto20000 -> RE: Korsun Pocket Steal?? (4/22/2004 8:54:41 PM)

Wow that is cheap.....You should have bought and sold it on ebay.

Paul Vebber -> RE: Korsun Pocket Steal?? (4/23/2004 1:17:57 AM)

UNfortunately such "dumping" is why we will not be using the retail channel much in the future. Buying a game at such a price means we get virtually nothing.

JudgeDredd -> RE: Korsun Pocket Steal?? (4/23/2004 9:52:03 AM)

I think it shows how niche this market is (strategy war gaming). I often see strategy war games reduced in price much sooner than their FPS counterparts.

Up until Battlefield Vietnam came out, Battlefield 1942 was full price - at 2 years old! Same with Medal of Honour. It depends, not on the genre, but on how well something sells.

I went to the same GAME store a couple of weeks after CMAK came out and it was down from £29.99 to £19.99!!

Pity - some of the best gaming is to be had in strategy - well, if you like strategy!! [:D]

Rainbow7 -> RE: Korsun Pocket Steal?? (4/23/2004 6:04:10 PM)

But you do get something, right? Most of those that buy it at that price might not have bought it from your web-store. And it does increase your potential future consumer base, right? I bought Titans of Steel at retail for half the price it lists on the Matrix E-store site. And since then I've become a Matrix convert, buying four more titles at higher prices and even one direct download.

It's not as completely gloomy as you paint it.

Rob Gjessing -> RE: Korsun Pocket Steal?? (4/24/2004 12:26:41 PM)

Yes thats true.. I think. There is no argument that having a game on a retail shelf has far greater potential sales then not having one on the shelf.

Adam Parker -> RE: Korsun Pocket Steal?? (4/29/2004 5:05:41 AM)

Absolutely Rob, you can't impulse buy on the web and holding the product is half way to owning.

I wouldn't be owning HTTR, CMBO or Strategic Command if I hadn't seen them on the local shelves. KP is another story but I wouldn't have bought that game over the web.

All my HPS titles I've bought, came mail order from Vortigern via phone call or off the shelf at Mil Sims.

Thing is, if DB Normandy looks good and David can make it a downloadable purchase, I may go that way... If the only option is by way of disc though, I wouldn't buy it over the web internationally. I'll wait for retail. However, if there is a printed manual I would expect a good discount with the download if it doesn't contain a free mailout of the book.

Adam.

David Heath -> RE: Korsun Pocket Steal?? (4/29/2004 5:29:28 AM)

Almost all of our games will be available for Digital Downloads so you can look and buy at the same time in most cases.

Adam Parker -> RE: Korsun Pocket Steal?? (4/29/2004 12:40:37 PM)

Well David, you've got a Normandy sale (looking forward to Panther's Bulge too).

I was very impressed with the ease of downloading Campaigns on the Danube. Very smooth service indeed.

Adam.

Canuck_jp -> RE: Korsun Pocket Steal?? (5/1/2004 12:52:25 AM)

I got my copy for 19.99 (pounds) but that was because they had mispriced it and had to sell it to me at that price instead of the normal 29.99

Panzermann -> RE: Korsun Pocket Steal?? (5/12/2004 9:29:43 AM)

I would love to be able to get your products online. [8D]

My wife would not notice. [:D]

Cheers,

Panzermann

Except for the hole in the credit card....

Budge -> RE: Korsun Pocket Steal?? (6/29/2004 2:53:53 AM)

KP is now marked at 99 pence in the Nuneaton branch of Game.

David Heath -> RE: Korsun Pocket Steal?? (6/29/2004 3:08:12 AM)

We will see nothing from that sale... or better said less then a dollar and SSG even less. Ninty percent of all Matrix Games titles will be sold only via our store. The only other title this year we are considering to release this year into retail is World At War.

David

Budge -> RE: Korsun Pocket Steal?? (6/29/2004 9:54:39 AM)

Hi David

Isnt there a minimum price you get for a sale of say KP from a company such as GAME (dont they pay for the games they stock on their shelves untill they are sold?) it seems weird that they can mark the price at 99p (about half a us dollar i think) and you get far less back than it cost to produce.

wodin -> RE: Korsun Pocket Steal?? (6/29/2004 3:18:41 PM)

I would have thought GAME would buy the items in bulk and if they sell it off chap then they lose out.

Surely worldwide you cant keep track on every single game and how much it sold for.

Ive just bought HTTR from you over the net.

My main compliant is you should advertise that the price is pre VAT. As my game went from 29.99 to 38.75 after VAT and delivery. Thats nearly a ten pound increase. I didnt know until my order was completed. I thought it would be 29.99 plus the delivery.

I do understand you cutting out the middle man but it doesnt seem right that they pay you whatever they sell the individual game for. Do they send you the receipt? Also surely they have a contract on how much per game they pay you. Otherwise they could sell all your games worldwide fro a pound and not pay you for them. Seems very odd.

Oh my, this happens all the time.

wodin -> RE: Korsun Pocket Steal?? (6/29/2004 4:43:11 PM)

really?!

Strange way of doing business. Why not charge GAME or any other retailer once they have recieved you games. Then its up to them what price they sell it at.

old man of the sea -> RE: Korsun Pocket Steal?? (6/29/2004 5:01:06 PM)

The only way I know of being protected from sales outside the USA being to low is to get a large advance on the product before you ship it into the market place. Then you just forget about getting any more money, because you won't.

Oh, it is. In your shopping basket it says " A VAT invoice can be viewed and printed at the end of your purchase.", then right below that is a link about information about VAT. Whic contains the following:

Information about VAT

Any digital products sold into the European Union include a VAT (Tax) charge of 17.5%.
NOTE: If your product is being delivered outside of the EU, you will not be charged VAT once you have entered your payment information.

Any physical products sold into the European Union include a VAT charge. However the VAT rate, and hence the total price, may alter once your shipping destination has been selected.

For customers from Austria, Belgium, Denmark, France, Germany, Ireland, Italy, Netherlands, Spain, Sweden, and UK the national VAT rate will be applied. For all other EU customers, the UK VAT rate of 17.5% will be applied.

A VAT invoice can be viewed and printed at the end of your purchase.
NOTE: If your product is being delivered outside of the EU, you will not be charged VAT once you have entered your payment information.

Hartford688 -> RE: Korsun Pocket Steal?? (6/29/2004 11:55:37 PM)

The implication of the notice is that the price quoted includes VAT at 17.5%...and that this (and the total price) may change if your rate (say The Netherlands) is different (20%).

Which would be fine.

But in fact the price quoted is entirely before VAT. So a 17.5% VAT surprise.

Note the phrase:

"Any digital products sold into the European Union include a VAT (Tax) charge of 17.5%."

Not "will have a VAT charge added".

This is compounded that most people in the EU would expect that a price quoted to include VAT...unlike the US where it is normal for prices to exclude state tax.

The opportunity to see the VAT invoice after you complete the process does not mitigate the surprise!

Not that this is a new point. But new buyers still get caught out by it.

RealChuckB -> RE: Korsun Pocket Steal?? (6/30/2004 1:17:34 AM)

Hi,

I have to agree with Hartford that the wording of this text is at least "ambiguous" (and that IS a [legal] problem with regard to consumer expectation)

Furthermore, the explanation "Information about VAT" doesn't really make sense. Digital River obviously tried to implement the new VAT regulation of the EU Directive 2002/38/EC.
Under this Directive, any B2C transaction of electronically supplied services (Annex L of the Directive list "Supply of software and updating thereof" inter alia) of a Non EU supplier is subject to VAT "at the rate of the country where the customer resides". That would ALWAYS be the country where the (private) customer has residency.
Any transaction of a EU based supplier to a (private) customer inside the EU is ALWAYS subject to the VAT of the country where the SUPPLIER resides.

So the only situation in which the "Information about VAT" would make sense is the one in which all sales to Austria, Belgium, Denmark, France, Germany, Ireland, Italy, Netherlands, Spain, Sweden, and UK are made by a business entity that is located in any EU member state while all the sales to the other EU countries are made by a different business entity that is located outside the EU.

Well, enough legal stuff. The reason why I write this at all is that I believe that electronic software distribution ("digital download") is truly great and can benefit both the customers and the supplier. Therefore it should be made as easy and transparent as possible for the customer and Software Publishers (like Matrixgames) should put pressure on the service provider (Digital River) if there are glitches in the system that make customer shy away.

Im not really complianing but an option to see the full pric eincluding \vat and delivery would be nice before you have to purchase.

Arthurmoment -> RE: Korsun Pocket Steal?? (7/1/2004 11:14:53 PM)

David, just as a little bit of feedback - I am sure you do very well with sales (and I am very pleased you do) but myself I can only fork out about 10 pounds a month on games and tend to be very patient. If Highway to the Reich etc were a straight 20 pounds (including VAT) I would buy new from you every time. Yes, I am sure youv'e heard it before and I am not in sales and marketing so do not understand the mechanics - I look at Amazon (UK) and e-bay (sharks) to try and get your products. It says a lot though that Uncommon Valour (excuse spelling) and Highway retain their value damn it!
