Mr.Frag -> Hardware Requirements Update (5/6/2004 7:49:23 PM)

Due to the vast amount of information being presented, the 800x600 mode was removed from the game. The current product only supports the 1024x768 resolution unlike Uncommon Valor which had a toggle between the two modes.

If your machine can not handle 1024x768 resolutions with an acceptable refresh rate, start saving up your pennies for something that can. The reason I say acceptable refresh rate is that you will be spending countless hours in front of your screen entering and adjusting orders.

Other then the video requirements, any machine with 256 Megs of ram and about a 450 MHz processor and a gigabyte of free drive space will have you happy. Turn resolution is obviously faster on faster machines but this does not mean it is required to run.

The reason I raise this is based on what I saw in the HTTR forum back when Dave from Pather Games ran a poll. It appears that war gamers tend to have the oldest collection of hardware on the planet because they spend all their money on books instead of computer upgrades.

DAMMIT.... *%&#**#^*&@#*(&$(*&*#%

I'm one of those 800x600 guys. I was hoping against hope that WiTP wasn't going to go higher...

I'm not mad at Matrix, I should have seen this coming... I'm just mad because it's less beer money now that I need to buy new hardware.

Nomad -> RE: Hardware Requirements Update (5/6/2004 8:54:24 PM)

I wish we had a 1600 x 1200 option. [:D]

Brady -> RE: Hardware Requirements Update (5/6/2004 8:57:36 PM)

I am still saving to buy a New Bulb for my Prodjector, though the rest of my system will handel this fine at present, the BIG screan would be nice to sit in front of again[:)]

Figured there were a couple of folks like you around ... thats why I wanted to get the news out before you got home from the store with WitP only to find out the hard way. This was, you have time still to divert the beer money! [;)]

As you can see, there really is nowhere to steal that 224x168 from.

TWO WORDS.....'BIGGER MONITOR'.....lol

I have a 21" and it is awesome. You can get referbs from tigerdirect.com for about $300

My Radeon video card rocks too.[8D]

Capt. Harlock -> RE: Hardware Requirements Update (5/6/2004 11:35:14 PM)

Dang...that Gigabyte of free hard drive space may be a challenge, too. Funny how even a massive hard drive tends to fill up in just a couple of years.

A couple of years? [X(] Try a couple of months. I guess you must not be visiting the same pron sites I am. [;)]

siRkid -> RE: Hardware Requirements Update (5/6/2004 11:49:30 PM)

LOL I remember getting really pi$$ed when everyone started designing to WIN 95. I was dragged out of DOS kicking and screaming by SSI.[:D]

Philwd -> RE: Hardware Requirements Update (5/6/2004 11:55:08 PM)

Whew!!![:)][:)][:)] I barely pass with my 600 MHz P3, 256M Ram and 4 GIG free HD space left. ALRIGHT! Although I may have to upgrade my 15" monitor.

You can pick up a 7200 RPM 80 GB hardrive for 60-70 bucks

Admiral DadMan -> RE: Hardware Requirements Update (5/7/2004 5:23:30 AM)

I've been able to run WitP while testing on both a Win98se PIII 500 laptop with 320MB RAM and a WinXP Athlon 1.2GHz with 450MB RAM. My WinXP machine runs turns a little faster, but doggles me when I alt+tab to other proggys.

bradfordkay -> RE: Hardware Requirements Update (5/7/2004 7:58:02 AM)

So you are saying that at 800x600 the game couldn't center the information windows? That is what your posting of the two screen shots seems to show. Otherwise, all the detail is there...

Don't worry, I'm not complaining. I have the capability to handle the game, as long as it still runs under Windows98SE, which appears to be the case.

Xargun -> RE: Hardware Requirements Update (5/7/2004 9:18:22 AM)

I'm glad to hear the requirements are so low.. Some of us poor college students only have a 500 MHz... I have tons of RAM and even more HD space... So no problem there.

1089 -> RE: Hardware Requirements Update (5/9/2004 9:10:56 AM)

I agree with you. My new 20-inch TFT LCD screen would be great to play on, but it will look fuzzy at 1024x768. 1600x1200 is native resolution. Guys with 800x600 could just page through 4 screens to see it all... [;)]

Love that screenshot........

fcooke -> RE: Hardware Requirements Update (5/9/2004 12:11:50 PM)

I think it would be smart to have the game be able to cater to 1600x1200 as more and more flatscreens have this mode as native....and more and more people are buying flatscreens.

On the flagship denotion thing (the # character) - is it possible/easy to switch this to something more intuitive? It's obviously not a biggie but with all the other nice graphics a little flag would seem to be a nice alternative.....

salivating for the game now....especially since I've signed up to get trounced by Mog....

fabertong -> RE: Hardware Requirements Update (5/9/2004 1:02:09 PM)

Now I'm worrying my 17 inches won't be enough!!!!

GBirkn -> RE: Hardware Requirements Update (5/9/2004 5:37:31 PM)

Hear, hear. This is a game that really would really benefit from 1600x1200. No need for a higher-res map, just put more hexes on the screen. (And while I'm wishing for things, it would be very helpful to be able to move and resize the windows for TFs, ports, etc., as well as have more than one of them open at a time.)

Reichenberg -> RE: Hardware Requirements Update (5/9/2004 5:56:29 PM)

I fully agree with some of the posters above. A resolution of 1600x1200 and 1280x1024 (for all the 17", 19" and 20" LCDs out there) would be really great. Considering that this game will be on our HDs for quite some years, 1024x768 will look measly by then[:(]

I'm running UV at 1024x768 resolution on a 17" LCD that has a native resolution of 1260x1024 it looks and runs great!

TIMJOT -> RE: Hardware Requirements Update (5/9/2004 7:27:12 PM)

Off topic, but this new flagship designation thingy #. Does it affect command and control. Example, the flag ship is sunk or heavily damage during combat does the TF suffer some sort of disruption hit?

Yeah, and can you designate your own? I got very tired in UV of the game selecting a TF commander who was both a witless wonder and had the approximate charisma of Raverdave's butt (err, I guess it's "bum" down there).

We'll never get that thing on the album cover.

Bum it is, but Arsehole or just plain arse works just as well.
