Same here with the sound. There are things that stop the background track and it doesn't get started again. One is terrain sounds. Get near a swamp and it will stop the sound (and you'll be swatting at that horsefly buzzing yer head!). Another is wrecked vehicles or fires. That stops the track. Don't know why it doesn't restart. I personally love the background tracks. They add a sense of dimension to the game. Sounds in the distance.
It is possible to keep the track running at all times. Put soundtrack ON, and take soundeffects OFF. But you don't get to hear the great explosions, and that sucks.
Oh well.
Perfect thing would be to have the background soundtrack play constantly and have the soundeffects with a lower volume so that fit into the background soundtrack a bit better. Then the total sound would be always irregular and not predictable. Or just make the background soundtracks recorded at a higher volume. But the key is to get the background soundtrack to run constantly.
There is one other way. Delete the terrain soundfiles and that way they won't be played. I am thinking this would work.
