TM dwesolick, you made my night, and some beer come through my nose as well!!! [sm=00000280.gif] I couldn't agree more, that the rest of the servicemen are equal to us in some way or form. WHICH BRANCH OF THE MILITARY IS BEST? A Soldier, a Sailor, an Airman, and a Marine got into an argument about which service was "the best". The arguing became so heated the four servicemen failed to see an oncoming truck. They were run over by the truck and killed instantly. Soon the four servicemen found themselves at the Pearly Gates of Heaven. There, they met Saint Peter and decided that only he could be the ultimate source of truth and honesty. So, the four servicemen asked him, "Saint Peter, which branch of the United States Armed Forces is the best?" Saint Peter replied, "I can't answer that. However, I will ask God what He thinks the next time I see Him. Meanwhile, thank you for your service on Earth and welcome to Heaven." Some time later the four servicemen see Saint Peter and remind him of the question they had asked when first entering Heaven. The four servicemen asked Saint Peter if he was able to find the answer. Suddenly, a sparkling white dove lands on Saint Peter's shoulder. In the dove's beak is a note glistening with gold dust. Saint Peter says to the four Servicemen, "Your answer from the Boss. Let's see what He says." Saint Peter opens the note, trumpets blare, gold dust drifts into the air, harps play crescendos, and Saint Peter begins to read the note aloud to the four Servicemen: MEMORANDUM FROM THE DESK OF THE ALMIGHTY ONE TO: Soldiers, Sailors, Airmen, and Marines SUBJ: WHICH MILITARY SERVICE IS BEST Gentlemen, all branches of the United States Armed Forces are honorable and noble. Each serves America well and with distinction. Being a serviceman in the United States Military represents a special calling warranting special respect, tribute and dedication. Be proud of that. Sincerely, GOD, USMC(Ret.)

Well there's NO QUESTION we all have our benefits to one another in the performance of our duties... be they past or present... Being a present day "Airman" who's had the privledge of a flight in an F15 and to support some of the best bomber pilots known to man I can say one thing about our boys... "They want warheads on foreheads, they call the the US Air Force!" [8D] That'd be the B1 bomber community specifically (my lil personal bias), but they all rock! As do all the services! [8D]

A Navy Admiral, an Army General, an Air Force General and a Marine Sgt. Major were all sittin' 'round drinkin' one day. The discussion moved into who’s troops had the most balls. The Army General stood up and said, “come on over to my base and I’ll show you troops with balls.” They all went to an Army Ranger base. The General went up to one of his Ranger boys and said, “I want you to go up in that chopper and jump out.” The Ranger said, “YES SIR!” (like a good Army of One). He goes up in the chopper and jumps out. He hits the ground with a thump…graveyard dead. The General says, “now that takes balls!” The Navy Admiral piped up and said, “that ain’t nuthin’. Come on over to my base and I’ll show you troops with balls.” They all walk onto the deck of one of those big carriers. The Admiral approaches a sailor and asks, “sailor, can you swim?” The sailor says, “no sir.” The Admiral says, “I want you to run and jump off the side of this boat.” The sailor says, “AYE AYE SIR!” (mutters ‘some adventure this turned out to be!’) He jumps off the side and hits the water with a splash…he drowns and is graveyard dead. The Admiral says, “now that’s what I call balls!” The Air Force General gets all puffed up and says, “ come on over to my base and I’ll show you troops with balls.” They all go over to the Air Force base and drive out on the flight line. The General walks up to one of His fighter jocks and says, “ I want you to fly this airplane as high as you can and drive it into the ground.” The fighter jock says, “YES SIR!” The airplane aims high, then slams into the ground…BOOOOM…graveyard dead. The Air Force General says, “now that's troops with balls.” The Sgt. Major had been content to sit and drink quietly but he speaks up and says. “y’all come on over to my base and I’ll show you troops with real balls.” They all go to Marine Corps Recruit Depot, Sandiego, California. The Sgt. Major says, as they walk toward the repelling tower, “these boys aren’t even Marines yet.” He calls a recruit over and says. “I want you to go up to the top of that tower and jump off.” The recruit says, "F@#$ YOU!" The Sgt. Major turns to the others and says, “ now that’s what I call balls!”

I suppose that there is actually a lot of “Forgine Military Type” [sic] [;)] around here, however, I think they keep quiet, just like I did for a while. The reason for me keeping quiet about my military service is that my country has compulsory military service that most men complete. Therefore it is not such a big deal – everyone does their service in some form. Well it is a big deal, but in a different way, as being a service man doesn’t carry any special significance in comparison to for example Australia and U.S. On the contrary, seeing guys in uniforms in the middle of Helsinki don’t make you go [8D] and [&o] Instead, men go [:D], [:'(] and [8\|], and women go [>:]. I believe it’s pretty much the same all around the old world, where there still is compulsory service in many countries. That said: I served nine months as a medical corporal in Guard Jaeger Regiment/ Uudenmaa Jaeger Battalion/ AT-Company/ 1/99

If I had my way, all boys would either go to college or do a tour of duty in the militay after highschool. I believe our country would be much better off with a little more discipline instilled in our younger citizens.

But I wouldn't send anyone to college (not in the US at least) and expect them to come out with more discipline! I like the idea of national service, not necessarily military, to expose Americans to the wonderful diversity that is America. When I was in the service my tank platoon (20 men) contained soldiers who were born in Cuba, Mexico, Korea, Spain and England. Most of the rest were either rural Southern whites or Northern urban blacks. It was a fantastic learning experience for me that I never would have had if I had followed the traditional school-work path.

I could work with that Darhorse. Some kind of manditory service would be great....be it military or peace corps.....sounds good to me. Maybe a college or military choice. and If they make the college choice, hold them to a certain grade standard or they drop college and go military. Just a thought. If folks had to serve, then they would be less likely to bad mouth those that do serve. I've heard folks say that the military is full of guys just there to get money for education, and they talk like that's a bad thing. Those people that do go in for college money have to accept the fact that they may have to be shot at someday....and that deserves respect regardless of their motivation for serving. OK.....gotta lower the bloodpressure now.....[:)]
