Kuroshio Apocal -> Weather and terrain effects on Airborne ops. (12/7/2001 11:59:00 PM)

I have been creating a ahistorical scenario involving a reinforced company of Fallschirmjagers making a parachute/glider assualt on a town held by a reinforced platoon of Rangers. I set the scenario at the dead of night, in blizzard conditions. Woods and rough terrain surround the town, yet they never seem to take extra suppression or casualties from the drop or landing. Is this simulated in SP:WaW? Or am I just missing something?

Well, weather like that would cancel an airborne drop, which might explain why the weather doesn't affect suppression (actually scatter as aircraft couldn't adequately maintain formation). However, drops I've seen in the game take serious suppression in woods/etc, regardless of nationality.

Now that you point it out, and I have run a few tests, it seems that they do take a bit of extra supression by landing in rough terrain or woods. Opps. But it is indeed somewhat strange landing in those conditions, and being able to have 100% of the troopers locked, cocked, ready to blast the block.

Also remember to launch the paratroopers from their planes only with small arms, since as long as i know (i dont know in the case of US paratroopers), the germans paratroopers got to the ground only with pistols, then they go to the ammo dumps so they get their weapons and ammo, since they were not able to jump with the extra weight of their weapons. I never saw anyone have this in mind making a scen with german paratroopers.

Try "Lightning Strikes in Norway" by Wild Bill Wilder. It has German Para drops with no ammo and you must move you men to the ammo cannisters. This is Scen087 if you want to read the intro without opening the game.

yes, i remember and forgot to mention that one

Soviets made several jumps in sub-freezing weather and gale force winds. Didn't work out well for them but they tried. ;-) They are the only force I have heard of that made jumps like that.

I don't think it has an effect on the paratroopers in SPWAW. This is reminiscent of an A_B thread... where is that guy?? Tomo
