Noumea [X(] Bloody hell ! Mate you are going to have to root them out of there as fast as possible, because if you don't he will hit NZ within the next month. Plus you are now going to have to route all of your convoys to Oz south of NZ.........and that will add at least a week and a half of steaming time onto the trip.

Actually that's been a real bloodbath that game so far. Noumea isn't that far from Truk or Kwajalein - so that invasion can be done. Of course, the trick is to pin the HQ there against the sea and crush the life out of them ;)

It was a poor set piece start for me in the other game. sure, I got 5 bbs at pearl (2 days) and have sunk many many enemy warships and transports, I have also lost a few more than usual, and didn't catch many aircraft on the ground at all.

The fact that the few available assets are thousands of miles away makes responding extremely hard.The few naval units in the DEI cannot cope with the large scale IJN forces swarming the area,making the fight or flight decison even harder[:D]

If you have some troops and supplies to spare, fight for it, no point in giving the banana anything for free or easy. Also might slow him down in trying to mess with OZ or NZ, not to mention the shipping from the states to OZ. Just my .02 cents

I agree with SunDevil -- plus, the sooner you can get Luskan bogged down in a battle of attrition (rather than maneuver), the better for you.

Yeah, but the problem is that Luskan now has some very very big and high experianced Divisions just waiting to be cut loose again, and yes I now have the Aussie 7th and 3rd Divisions ready to be deployed. But once they land at PM, it is a case of fighting with your back to the sea.......no where to retreat too. Also Luskan with his CVs still has complete control of the sea's. This is a really hard question, fight for PNG or just give it up and invade in '43.[&:]

A couple of bdes are simply going to be swept aside...........I have seen that happen too often in Malaya to know different. Looking at the map I am sure that the best course is to attack up through Timor............bugger PNG.

Everytime I worry about losing some troops, I go into the intel window, and then select the option to see all the troops that I will be getting and their arrival dates. That always reassures me that being the allies I can lose troops because in the end, I will have resources and troops to wipe Japan off the map.

I always try and bring as many units as i can in from the US into Australia/SW Pacific as possible so i would throw a Division or 2 of these in and keep those Aussie units for the battle of Sydney[:D]

Another big bombardment at akyab that wipes 14 tanks, 21 guns and 500 of his troops from the face of the earth and Raver calls that quiet.

My troops land at Cebu and Ambiona (slaughtering a thousand infidels at the latter) and he calls that quiet. Operations are rolling forward rather smoothly in fact. Surprised Raver hasn't tried to kick in any of my spokes just yet (although, rather than attacking because he doesn't know what else to do, he now has the strength to wait and see my first moves and then respond with force if needs be).

as for my 2 cents (I'm putting in more than sundevil who only contributed 2% of 2 cents!) I say fight for PNG! Send in the aussies and see where that gets you - I KNOW how little there is defending Oz at the moment, and what a bad shape it is all in.

As for 52nd Lowland . . . well we're at turn 3 in our game and I've sunk 5 of his bbs at pearl, and just put lex and enterprise under the water when they ran into a retiring KB just off midway island. Means that until he gets new ones I can set up shop in noumea and stay there for a while.

Darwin is still a tempting target. Raver hasn't saved any troops from the SRA, and in fact he's been shipping them into the DEI - where I'm sure he hopes I get bogged down, and then his surface forces and cvs can battle me on the fringe of my control zone, instead of inside it like in the central pacific or PI/Borneo etc etc. Fortunately I'm smarter than he is and have a plan for this. Although it didn't include invading sydney, Raver's marched a whole bunch of aussie units to darwin on turn 1, so . . .

Akyab is doing well thankyou very much..............the bombardments are simply a chance for my subs to try and nab a capitol ship. The damage that Luskan is claiming is very much over-stated. FOW is not only clouding the combat reports, but is also clouding Luskan's image of his own forces.

Bugger! Luskan must have spotted some of the troopships that have been ferrying troops and equipment to Java[:@] I am indeed planning one hell of a suprise there for him, but now it looks like he will be walking into it with his eyes wide open. Bugger!

Truth be known I am really not worried about Luskan's implied threat to attack Oz...........he would be a fool to try, and even I know that he is not THAT stupid.......so it seems as if bananananana is simply typing rubbish to make him self look more self-important than he really is.

I've known Raver's plan for Java, and he's made a couple of errors (i think) that I'm going to make him realise over the next few months. I have 3 stages in my evil plan, and Stage 1 has only just begun this turn. Raver will post it when he sees it this turn. By the time stage 1 is complete, I'll have many many many big divisions at 100% from the PI and from Malaya, who have fniished mopping up operations in all the little islands on the way, and will be poised to strike the DEI.

He doesn't have the firepower to stand up for me for too long. A battle of attrition only develops when neither side can disengage to rest and refit. I only need 1 hex of the DEI, packed with hq's and supply, to retire my fighting divisions to in order to refit them to 100%. The trick is picking the right hex. Plenty of nasty coastal batteries around the place to worry about, and of course, I can't leave any resource areas with Raver so . . .

However since he knows i'm ready for him (I've spent weeks getting ready for this next op etc.) He's not going to do anything foolish enough to get them sunk just yet.

I am ready for Luskan..............oh boy am I ready! His first landing is at Palembang (Luskan's going to wet himself when he sees all the oil and resorces still there). Java is the key and I have had three months to build and build and build. Troop ships have been pouring in at such a rate that there is a shortage of APs elsewhere in the pacific, and this has frustrated my efforts to stage troops at Pearl. The next few moves should be interesting to say the least....more so in seeing Luskan's reaction.

Well, that is where Raver is a bit mistaken. java is important, but it is the oil and resources that are the key.

My economy underwent a massive and very stressful conversion to high gear at the beginning of this war. However, although I had fuel and supply shortages to begin with, I am making ends meet now. However as for armament, plane and enginer production I have now come to the conclusion that I expanded too far, and have overproduced many airframes and engines etc. seeing as I'll be upgrading lots of them soon. So next time, more R+d, less expansion.

Also, wishing I expanded my repair facilities at the start. Fortunately I haven't had too many crippled ships yet. More than 75% of the ships I've lost to this war so far have been lost due to game balance issues, ie. Allied super asw has cost me abour 40 subs, and cd units pounding dds to dust). However that is all being addressed.

As for the oil and resources side of things . . . well I've actually got over 200k of each stockpiled at Osaka, and although I periodically don't have enough at Saigon or the korean peninsula, I actually have about 300k of oil and 100k of resources sitting at my bases around the map that I just haven't been able to ship somewhere yet. I'm not lacking for either (thanks to my stealing of all of Borneo's most important oil production centres and kendari in the first 2 weeks - I'm months ahead of schedule in that regard for production) but I am not converting them to supply and fuel quiet fast enough to build major stockpiles. Malaya is excellent, with oil and resources from as far away as Rangoon being converted at Singapore where I need the supply and fuel most. Lots of fuel and supply there - and Manila is back online now and a bit of extra manpower there helps too.

The question: Do I upgrade my heavy industry, take the supply hit and suffer for it in the later game when I can't supply the damned stuff, in order to build bigger stockpiles? I think a moderate increase in certain safe locations is a good idea.

This turn Raver sent 4 pommy bbs into Rangoon, and sunk 3 of my dds (he encountered a dd force that didn't long lance unfortunately, but avoided most of the damage, and a 2 ship asw force that got wasted). He didn't bombard though, and retired having missed his only opportunity. My cruisers swept into Darwin and sank 5 of his destroyers and 1 transport with 350 troops aboard which all drowned. This was a brilliant success, only I WAS stupid enough to bombard, and lost 2 dds for my trouble. This turn ended up with the score 5 dds lost each. I lost a msw, he lost a transport and some troops.

He is about to loose Kuching, tacloban, iliolo (sp) Palembang and Jambi. raver seems to have forgotten that the important oil and resources in the DEI are on Sumatra, not Java, and the bases from palembang north all produce oil and resources in small but handy amounts.

Raver's spotted planes have sucked all game and they're proving it now. I've had cvs waiting for his cvs to show near palembang for 2 turns now, only 5 hexes away from his major base at batavia and they haven't been spotted yet (while a pair of dds and a msw were reported as a bb and 2 ca) . . . He really does need to bring back the cane in those enemy ship id classes.

My spotters only just saw Raver's 4 bb at rangoon last turn before they arrived in time for me to evac all my transports (lots of troops and supply headed north of course).
