BarkhornXX -> Can Someone Please Explain What the Delay Settings Do? (6/14/2004 8:43:47 PM)

So what do these do exactly and what do you set them at and why?

Thanks,
Barkhorn.

The delay settings are for those who want to see a detailed battle report when you are finished with your turn. There are several settings for different kinds of results..The larger number means longer delays (to allow more time to read the reports)..
Slower machines or people in a hurry may not need to set them,(or may not want to read those reports)..I set mine to have the shortest report time and still give me an idea how "things are going".I generally do not concern myself with the aerial battles too much early on,I assume the allies will get their back sides handed to 'em on a platter, till P38's and Corsairs arrive..[;)]

So…let me see if I have this straight – setting it to, say, 1.00 minute will give me a bare bones end of battle description, while setting delay to, say, 3 minutes will give me more detail. And…if I hit DONE before the animation finishes I will not get much info at all. Yet, the end of turn AAR will supply ALL details. Is that correct?

Thanks,
Barkhorn.

That is correct as I understand it..Prior threads have shown others asking if setting "no" delay will culminate in the same results, and in game design terms, that is supposed to be correct, but some have claimed otherwise..When I was real new to this game,I set it to slow reports so I could get an idea what was going on..FWIW,actually playing the game and asking questions here on this forum helped me a lot more than the manual ever did..
I like the manual, but it's not the best way for me personally to learn,(by itself)..

I hear ya, you do have to learn by doing. I now have my delays set to 2 minutes. Seems like a good compromise.

BTW, just finished Turn 1 of The Coral Sea scenario playing "for real" now as the Japanese.

Doubtless this will raise other questions.

Thanks,
Barkhorn.

Please note, though, these are SECONDS not minutes. So, setting 3 on air-to-air will mean that every action in the air-to-air sequence will give you 3 seconds of viewing time.

As with M10Bob, I set most of these to .1 (I think that's the lowest), with the exception of air-to-surface and surf-to-surf, which I have at 1 second. You'll get a combat report at the end, anyway -- this just delays the graphic show.

Hmmm...I'll have to play around some more.

Thanks,

Want to add one thing here. The only thing that the combat summary does not show you is whether the CAP had to climb or dive to intercept. Optimal CAP setting is 4-5,000 feet above the bombers since escorts will be 3000 feet above the bombers. That gives your CAP the altitude advantage in the battle without making them so far away that they cannot hit the incoming bombers before they drop their bombs.
