This question has been asked by myself and others in several threads but never seems to get an answer:
Why can't digital download be offered at the same time as the CD going on sale at Origins (June 24)? It seems a shame that the vast majority of hard core Matrix supporters (in these forums) will have to wait while the general public has access to it. It also seems like it would be easier to offer it via download...of course you could fit everything I know about programming and download technology into the period at the end of this sentence. And still have room left over[8|].

It almost seems that you thing there is a vast conspiracy to deny us this game before the people ar Origins...
Im sure the reason they wont be offered at the same time is because they CANT be offered at the same time.
I am sure all parties involved would like to get thos product out ASAP.

I can understand that they want to have it available at Origins for the first time anywhere. That way, it's a big event, people come from miles around to get the game and meet the developers, and it makes the biggest possible splash. (I may yet make it to Origins myself, and if I do, WitP will be the only reaon I'm there.) But I hope that they'll have the download going on the 25th.

No, I don't "thing" there is a vast conspiracy...just asking a simple question. At one time it was posted that DD would be available "shortly after" Origins, in another it was "several days". Just wondering why the delay.

If they want to make a splash at Origins, that's great. But then, in theory at least, DD should be available the next day, no?

Marketing guys ... Big splash at Origins might help sell some copies. You'll get it a couple of days later. Don't know why you can't see it, it's rather obvious. If you get it first, not splash at Origins.

Sorry about the sarcasm, it would just be really nice to have a date to circle on the old calendar (like 24th, 25th, etc).

Guys. Believe me, they want to sell you this. [8|] It's a matter of days after Origins, not weeks.

Ok, so it is a marketing scheme and not a production problem?

A new marketing scheme:

“Matrix Games and 2by3 are proud to present Witp at Origins for the first time and the entire world of dedicated war gamers.”

This is a one time opportunity for Matrix Games.

However, the delay is more than likely about a written contract with the promoters of Origins.

Once I make the Gold Master I can make copies of the game for Origins. The digital download needs more time for our staff to get it ready for sale. Remember its got to be uploaded to severs overseas. If its possible to release this at the same time we will but do not expect it.

You are going to be playing the game for the next 200 weekends at least. Missing 1 doesn't really factor into the greater scheme of things. [:D]

Might want to get that work around the house done so you can free up the next couple of weeks. [;)]

What Unappreciated.... you guys are our bread and butter and Matrix and I pretty sure 2by3 feels the same way. Shaun nor myself have not gotten more then 3 - 4 hours sleep since June 7. I can tell you now that we will be working from now up until the second the show is open to get you this game.

I am just trying to be honest.... the weekend is just not possible IMHO. You have just about the entire Matrix game staff flying from all over the world to be at Origins.

Actually I was in Columbus, a long time ago, and there was this place (the spinnaker?) that made a "Garbage Burger" 1/3 lb patty and IIRC 11 different toppings on it. The thing was huge, and you had to really squeeze on it to get it to fit into your mouth. Lots of fun[sm=00000459.gif][sm=00000436.gif]

Thanks for the update. One common thread is that Matrix promotes is the need to "get it right" and that includes the DD[:D]. Imagine how frustrating it would be if we couldn't download it. My confidence has been horribly shaken in the past with game companies that don't do it right from start to finish. While I haven't owned any Matrix games(I will remedy that very soon) I have a lot of respect for a company that say, and sticks to " when it is ready and not before." The only other company, besides Matrix that does that is Battlefront and their games are pretty much bug free and well thought out.

Take the time that is needed to make sure that it is done right from start to finish. What the heck is a couple of more days wait?

i have already scheduled vaction time after july 5 holiday. i hope everything is in place by july1. did anyone ever have the UV manual printed up by one of the kikos and how much did it cost?

You'll be better off sitting with the Manual open in a PDF reader and being able to search through it *while* you have WitP up on the screen. Never understood why people insist on killing trees when they can read it on screen with a good search ability too!

I wasn't planning on downloading or going to Origins; although now I'm actually thinking about it. But I'd hate to arrive in OH (from NV) and find out they've sold out.

Anyway, when can we order it? I'm quite surprised that it's not listed under "coming soon" at the store. I pre-ordered UV and had planned on the same for WitP but it doesn't look like Matrix is going to be taking pre-orders.

No, It appears no preorders and no retail sales.. or for that matter chips and bits.. so you might save some gas money, and order next day air delivery if available after origins..

This all seems a little strange to me. Paying $70 for a download goes completely against the grain. It's not the money, it's just that for $70 I should get something I can put my hands on. I wanted to place my pre-order and then not think about it until I was overjoyed by its arrival.

It's also strange to me that this information isn't easily found when a game is this close to completion. It shouldn't be a chore to acquire something you're more than willing to pay top dollar for.

I realize this may all be because of Origins and that by July 1st this will have sorted itself out. I sure hope so.

Yup, as well as the wait being negated for folks in other parts of the world...I think its a great descision.

I for one am going to Origins (I live just outside Columbus) for the sole purpose of buying WitP. The $70 for the game. plus the price of a map (if they have them for sale then), $10 or so for the ticket to get in and the $20 in gas is not even a consideration. I have waited far too long for this game for a little thing like $100 to stand between me and WitP...

I already have 1 PBeM setup and may be buying a copy for him and overnighting it to him - depends on how long he wants to wait for DD. I may be able to pick up a few other copies for those who live to far away and have a crappy dialup connection like me.. But only people seriously interested need to email me. So if you live in East Bumblef*** and have a 56k dialup and want the game asap, email me and we'll talk. I do not plan on buying tons of extra copies, so if you are interested email me quick..

You're mixing two issues. My problem with the digital download is not having something tangible in my hands after the purchase. I'm also concerned that should there be an error that's no fault of mine, I have no idea what protections are in place to ensure that I will actually get what I paid for.

OTOH, the chore is getting info on the available methods of purchase on a game that is supposedly a couple of weeks away from being released. I go to the official website and this is what I get:

WitP is under development and not available for purchase or preorder yet.

That would indicate to me that it will be available for preorder at some point; which I would think would have to be pretty soon. Now, thanks to the forum, I'm told there will be no pre-orders.

It seems to me that logically the purchasing options should be such that they encourage buyers rather than force them into a choice they don't like.

Again, if this can all be chalked up to last minute confusion preparing for Origins, I completely understand. I just want to know what my options will be and if necessary I will choose the lesser of the two evils.
