rickier65 -> 7.0 and MegaCampaign for North Africa (12/22/2001 10:37:00 AM)

I'm running Windows 2000 and downloaded the upgrade to 7.0. I did a fresh install of MCNA from the CE. then upgraded using the 5.01 to 5.2 then used the V6.1 update then installed V6.1 to V7.0 Internet Upgrade. When I started the MC, I set preferneces to command Control on, started campaign and moved unit A0, when I chose the next button, I was kicked back to the initial Steel Panthers Screen (the very very first menu screen that come up, where you choose to play Steel Panthers) I tried reinstalling three times, the last time checking after each install to see where it started to fail. I was getting rather lazy by this time and after the final upgrade it worked this time, so I started palying, then I realized that I had forgotten to set my preferences to command control on. I quit, then went back to set commmand control and restart, and low and behold, it failed as before. So I then went to play a scenario, I just picked a couple at rnadom, and they all worked with or without command control on, I wnet back to MCNA, tried the alternative scenarios, and without exception, they would fail if I choos command control on. Any suggestions? Has anyone else had this problem? My MCNA on the CD is version 5.01. Thanks,
Rick

I wouldn't be surprised if your problem is with win2k. My son used to work for Microsoft and he offered it to me for free. I tried it with a few games. Some worked and some didn't. So I kept my old standby win98. Win2k is sort of nt based and is designed for business use. Try going back to win98 and see how it works.

Paul Vebber mentioned someplace C&C not working with the MegaCampaigns for Win2K and WinXP. No reason given why it doesn't work.

Come on, guys! Why would Microsoft allow you to maniplulate Command and Control of your PC?? (no real answer here, just a little levity.)

Did you deleted that directory Paul recommended to be deleted, after the 7.0 upgrade? Just a thought.

Unfortunately there is now way around it, if your running Win 2000 or XP your going to have to play with C&C off or the game will crash. It has something to do with the Microsoft coding in which Matrix game designers have been unable to crack at this point. Sorry but the game is still very enjoyable without this feature.

IT works with the same code outside the Mega campaign...why it doesn;t work inside the MC is a mystery of WIn2K/XP...

OK, well at least I know that it's not just something I've done. I may go ahead wihtough C&C on, I just was afraid that it would give me to great of an advantage over the AI. I actually much prefer win2k over earlier Windows Op Systems, much more control of what is going on under the hood, as stable as NT but with much better periperhal support. I did not want to go into win XP.

This is actually the third game I've had some trouble with, but it's a vastly superior OS from prior windows for most apps I use. Oh well, work or play? It seems like a very strange problem though, since the C&C works with standard scenarios just not with MegaCampaigns. Those kind of problems can be pretty subtle and hard to fix. Thanks all for the replies. I may try a few other things. Thanks again.
