PeteBull -> Crash to desktop (6/26/2004 9:51:35 PM)

After playing 8.01 for a prolonged period it will crash to desktop. I've checked my vid drivers, 9.0b directx is installed but doesn't appear to be a req for this game.

Any ideas?

Try shutting down any background programs? And how long is a prolonged period? I get a feeling it may be so long that several people would be happy to keep the game up that long [;)]

I'll try and shut down everything that's not essential. It just doesn't happen with other games. It will happen anytime after about an hour's worth of play. The most I've played is about 4 hours.

I have that problem too, but at my end it does not need to be a whole hour, usually it will crash when I am deploying, which usually takes 15-30mins. I have all the latest drivers and such, and it only happens with this game

and saveing often doesnt help either, cuz once you load up your save, it will crash again when it reaches the same point. it happens to me on all RTS games, warcraft 2, age of kings, etc.

Sounds like hardware issues and/or conflicts.

Enough RAM? Do they work?

Is the sound card alright? (this one can produce any number of weird problems. I solved all mine when I bought a new card a year ago)

terje439 -> RE: Crash to desktop (7/2/2004 12:33:38 AM)

well I have 1024RAM that works fine, and I had my soundcard checked by a guy from the shop that sold me the computor, and he says everything is in order. So I do not know what causes this bug, although using the mech.exe makes the game more stable, it does not completely solve the problem. But now I only get the problem aprox once an hour, so I just have to keep remembering to save.

sounds like a memory leak to me. And your sound card may work right. But not all sound cards are compatible with all games or operating systems. Also people who sell computors never find anything wrong with what they have sold. I have 128 on my sound card seems to help a lot of the time. I have never had any problem so far with spwaw lucky i guess.

yea I know usually the ppl that sells you a computer will hardly find any errors, HOWEVER this one is a personal mate [:)]

I had the same problem with a game like you are having. Could play some time for over an hour then would crash. Had to reboot and play some more before next crash. Got so that before i played i had to reboot my comp. I was told i had a very bad memory leak. Got rid of a few programs i had on like norton anti virus. Played ok after that. Programs running in the back ground was the problem. This was with windows me not with xp. Have not had anything like that since i went to xp by the way. Heard some time ago about some trouble with me and memory. Hope you get it to work for you it is a great game. While i was having this trouble i saved after every turn because i never knew when it would go down.
