IanLister -> help! (7/1/2004 1:25:18 AM)

Noon tomorrow EST apparently.

That's fine for those of you who live in Hollywood, Disneyland, the South Side of Chicago etc, but for those of us who live in the real world, sorry I mean England (the waiting is doing my brain in) what kind of time will that be here? Will I be awake? Do I need to set my alarm clock?

Excuse the above refs to the US but it's the impression you get from British TV. I trust the 'special relationship' Tony has with George W means there'll be no permanent harm done.

hithere -> RE: help! (7/1/2004 1:26:55 AM)

not 100% sure but I believe it is about 4 or 5 p.m. in London...i can't remember what London is to Zulu

hithere -> RE: help! (7/1/2004 1:29:29 AM)

its 6:25 edt now..if that helps

kaleun -> RE: help! (7/1/2004 1:32:00 AM)

London IS Zulu unless they do daylight savings, which would mean one hour earlier. The East coast is Zulu-6, EDT is Zulu -7

IanLister -> RE: help! (7/1/2004 1:32:56 AM)

Thanks. Shouldn't need the alarm clock, I'll be getting home from work. Mind you, if I've had a hard day........

Quick calculation: start download at 5p.m. on 128k ISDN line; should take around 8 hours....finish at 1a.m. Do I start playing, or do I lie awake all night wishing I had?

IanLister -> RE: help! (7/1/2004 1:34:20 AM)

What's all this Zulu and EDT stuff? I thought zulus lived in africa.

Grouchy -> RE: help! (7/1/2004 1:34:50 AM)

In New York, United States
when it's:

12:00 PM
donderdag 1 juli 2004
( observing DST )

In (UTC/GMT)
it will be:

04:00 PM
donderdag 1 juli 2004
( observing Standard Time )

John B -> RE: help! (7/1/2004 1:35:50 AM)

Yes, those US chappies are five hours behind us in the UK-at least those on EDT are - I assume Erik is talking EDT time? So about teatime tomorrow, in theory. Though I'm not holding my breath at not being crushed in the stampede. I suspect the best move might to be to start the download on Saturday morning, when most of the US is asleep, (at least those not still downloading WiitP[:(]

Grouchy -> RE: help! (7/1/2004 1:38:42 AM)

US chappies are still at work EU chappies are just coming home, doing dinner stuff..and in the background the DD's are running! [:D]

Zulu = Universal Standard Time = Greenwich Mean Time

IanLister -> RE: help! (7/1/2004 1:43:59 AM)

Thank you. Excuse the humble teacher of English, whose only true knowledge is of Shakespeare, Joseph Heller, ee cummings, Stephen Ambrose, Samuel Eliot Morrison and all those other great writers of the English Literary heritage.......

John B -> RE: help! (in reply to Grouchy) (7/1/2004 1:46:41 AM)

Good point there. So us sneaky Brits may just slide in ahead of the US on this one, and be up and running first[;)]

IanLister -> RE: help! (in reply to Grouchy) (7/1/2004 1:50:15 AM)

Now if they released it 4-5 hours earlier over here, we could sell it to you all on ebay ten minutes before it was released in the States and make a fortune........

kaleun -> RE: help! (7/1/2004 1:53:22 AM)

I didn't know until I took flight lessons[;)]

freeboy -> RE: help! (7/1/2004 1:58:06 AM)

Hey k, did you see the post by Erik of Matrix stating it should be out tomorrow?

rlc27 -> RE: help! (7/1/2004 1:58:52 AM)

I had a lady flight instructor (nothing against lady flight instructors in general) who got me so confused about zulu time I thought I'd never get how to convert EST to it. Until my new instructor told me you just convert your 12 hour time to military time and add 5 hours. [>:]

IanLister -> RE: help! (7/1/2004 2:00:43 AM)

I guess it's quicker than rowing.

Midnight. Time to go.

Think, next time I post on here, I may have a copy of THE EVENT, in whichcase I'll be too busy to post for at least 2 years..............
