sabre100 -> reviews? (7/6/2004 3:17:02 AM)

Does anybody know if any reviews exist on this game anywhere? What do you guys think of the game? I want to buy it for the price it looks like a steal but needed to see what you the current players think of it?

Thanks

Read through some of Didz' AAR's which will give you a good feel for the game...I enjoy playing it but there are some bug issues that still need to be addressed which has caused me to put the game on haitus for the time being....it is fun to play though and challenging, though the issue has been raised if there is much replay value once you go through all the scenarios...but, the price is right and it will occupy your time for some time....my advise though is to hold off purchasing it until the next patch comes out....

On the plus side, it seems to be a good, well-designed simulation of Napoleonic warfare; it's easy to learn and easy to play.

On the minus side, it's only part of a war so I don't get the feeling of involvement that I get from playing a whole war. There's at least one small bug still remaining but it can be worked around (and should be fixed soon). Playing against the program won't satisfy in the long term because it doesn't play very well; you have to consider playing against humans by e-mail.

I don't think it's necessary to wait for the next patch before buying. I can play the game without trouble as long as I remember not to use the arrow keys in the supply trains box.

I'm on my fifth campaign and have found the game good value for money in terms of modelling the strategy of Napoleonic Warfare. I particularly like the idea of being able to fight the battles offline which would be great if I was still in a wargame club.

I've been distracted momentarily by Spartan but hope to get back and finish my campaign AAR in the next week or two.

I know original thread started on July
but recently there was interesting review from CGW and CG
In CG (computer games magazine), Bruce Geyerk reviewed the game (He gave 4 stars for this game with very favorable remark)

I'm working on the finishing touches of my review. Been playing the game through December, and have enjoyed it! Keep your browsers linked to the Armchair General site (www.armchairgeneral.com) for when I publish the review. [8D]
