Peever -> Cost of Kinkos Manual (7/6/2004 3:34:38 PM)

I know someone asked last week if Matrix and Kinkos would team up to make the manual available and Matrix couldn't give an offical word at that point.

Has anyone gone to Kinkos though to print one out? I must have a printed manual if I'm going to learn the game and know it would take forever to print it out on my printer. If possible I would also like to have the tutorial manual too.

Feinder -> RE: Cost of Kinkos Manual (7/6/2004 3:40:46 PM)

They were going to charge me about $22 to print it double-sided, black and white, with holes punched.

The kid "reminded" me that the data was copywrited (good for him), but I told him I had downloaded the files and licence digitally, and said he'd take my word for it. But when he tried to print the PDFs, there was evidently a problem with the the CD that I burned them to, they got to about page 8, and stopped printing.

So I'm going to print it off 10 pages at a time, on my office printer. But the answer to your question is that, it should be between 20 and 25 dollars at Kinkos.

I'm pretty embarrassed to report this. I had the great idea to have the game documentation printed out by a copy service in order to expedite the process. N.B. that I have been unfamiliar with printing costs of such things. Sooo....

I took a ZIP disk w/ the tutorial, editor and game manuals to Office Max and requested they print them off as they appeared on the pdf files. I come back to get them and while they look great, I'm presented w/ a bill for $271 !!!! [X(] They had printed them in color and that was the difference. Unfortunately, the manuals are much more effective in color, but B&W is the only feasible option. The same job in B&W would've been about $23, I learned.

BTW, just the game manual, color, was $171 itself. I was pretty sick upon being presented with the bill. [:'(]

Kinko's quoted me $220 for color, double-sided, spiral-bound with acetate cover.

I beat up a laser-printer at work instead.

$220[X(]

Guess I'll be tying up the printer at work for a while.

kaleun -> RE: Cost of Kinkos Manual (7/6/2004 6:28:37 PM)

I printed them in color in my trusty HP 812C

Capitaine -> RE: Cost of Kinkos Manual (7/6/2004 6:58:56 PM)

Kaleun, that's the best way to go for color. Even if you use up entire ink cartridges at $60, you're waaaaay better off than paying a service for color.

bradfordkay -> RE: Cost of Kinkos Manual (7/6/2004 6:59:16 PM)

Just finished printing it last night on my old Canon BJC5000. $6.00 worth of high quality paper and $30.00 worth of ink cartridges, not to mention all the time. I did it in 25-50 page increments.

Now, I just have to spend the time to punch holes in them and buy a bigger binder (the one I bought was supposed to handle 250 pages, but apparently not of the higher quality inkjet paper!).

Legion -> RE: Cost of Kinkos Manual (7/6/2004 7:01:08 PM)

I had a similar experience to Capitaine.
I went to OfficeMax and told the fellow just to go ahead and print out the manula and tutorial, figuring it couldn't be more than $20.00 to $30.00.
When I came back, the bill was $189!!
Luckily, the guy worked with me, and only charged me color prices for the pages that actually used a lot of color, so I got the price down to $89.00.
Consider me properly chastized.

Is there a way to specify to print double-sided? I don't see this option in my printer set-up tab, or in the PDF options. I don't want 220 single-sided pages, and neither do I want to let it go and -hope- that the printer puts it double sided.

Your printer must have a duplexer to do this automatically - otherwise if you want double-sided prints you have to do it manually.

sprior -> RE: Cost of Kinkos Manual (7/6/2004 7:41:10 PM)

I took the manual and the tutoorial to CopyCat in Evanston, double-sided b&w, spiral boung with acetate covers, $6.48 for the pair... Shop around guys!

In the printer setup screen for Adobe (and some other apps) just choose "even" pages only. Once its done flip em over and print "odd" pages only. With decent paper this works great and keeps the manual down to a better size for binding (for me at least)

Takes awhile to print in color but looks better to me.

Onime No Kyo -> RE: Cost of Kinkos Manual (7/6/2004 8:35:24 PM)

Kinko's was quoting me $25 plus binding for the 220 pages of the manual in B&W. All was well until the young lady informed me that she couldnt use my storage device. I had made the mistake of bringing it in on an Intelligent Stick USB keychain storage thingy. I tried in vain to convince her that the Sony Picture card reader she was shoving it into was not the appropriate port for the device. I simply couldnt explain to her that the USB port was behind a flip up panel on the front of her PC tower. It was all to no avail. So I decided to take my bisiness elsewhere.

After visiting Sir Speedy (who told me it would take 4 days but only $30), Office Max, Staples and two private printshops (one of which quoted me a price of $55 AFTER I showed him where he might find the USB on his Dell Demention tower), I was pretty well enraged and not a little afraid of the number of idiots who surrounded me. Luckily I have a very understanding girlfriend who actually owns a printer. The project came out extremely well, except that I dont have that fancy-shmancy Kinko's binding. Oh, well, I'll live with my 3 ring binder if thats what it takes to keep my sanity.

captskillet -> RE: Cost of Kinkos Manual (7/6/2004 8:45:05 PM)

I have a technical school/college nearby so I took a copy of the PDF file to the graphic arts dept and for the price of a ream of paper I got a nice copy of the manual (color photo grade paper front and back cover with B/W pages) nicely spiral bound. That's just an idea and much cheaper that ink/paper or Kinko's!

grraven2004 -> RE: Cost of Kinkos Manual (7/6/2004 8:48:37 PM)

Tested out my brand new Lexmark on my manual. I sucked up my black cartridge and about half my color. Then went to office max got a decent 3 ring binder and sheet protectors. Put the pages in back to back and have a decent manual.

Over all cost after replacing my black cartridge will be about $45

yeknod -> RE: Cost of Kinkos Manual (7/6/2004 9:37:35 PM)

Anyone know where we can get cheap printing services like this in the UK?
