This has not jumped out for me in the manual. What bases have this for the Allies? SF and Karachi? Is it truly unlimited? Will the 10% limit supply rule be in affect at these bases or can you take all you want? Any in OZ? Sometimes these little facts are buried in a parapgrah somewhere and this one alludes me so far.

Mr.Frag -> RE: Free Fuel/Supplies for Allies (7/6/2004 4:46:23 PM)

The rule prevents you from taking it all, but it keeps coming in turn after turn. You'll find yourself running 700,000 supplies to Oz in no time.

Common newbie situation. Oz needs to eat. Oz has LOTS of bases. Oz has lots of troops. Supply is free. Stick 100 AK's into a TF and get it moving while the subs are back up north! It's free time ... later there will be 50 subs between you and Oz [:D]

jhdeerslayer -> RE: Free Fuel/Supplies for Allies (7/6/2004 4:51:12 PM)

Thanks Mr Frag. I'm stuck on this 10% issue. Doesn't this limit your convoys to small ones that take 10% at a time? Or do these Free Bases get beau coup supplies like millions so not such an issue? Thought I could send some really large convoys to OZ but the 10% limit has me confused. Do I then load 10% per turn so to speak with huge convoys?

I assume OZ has no Free Base?

Mr.Frag -> RE: Free Fuel/Supplies for Allies (7/6/2004 4:52:32 PM)

NO NO NO! [X(]

The base itself needs supplies so it will not give you the last 10%, not you can only load 10% [:D] You can load 90%!

jhdeerslayer -> RE: Free Fuel/Supplies for Allies (7/6/2004 4:56:38 PM)

Da! I had that back a#$wards. Sorry to be a bonehead. What a fine game this is!

The problem, early on (assuming playing the Allies in #15), is getting all the AK's, AP's, and TK's moved to Karachi and San Francisco in the first place. The real challenge is getting all those ships out of the western Pacific before they get blown to hell by the Japanese. And they are hidden EVERYWHERE! I chose Tiljap fro a lot of them, as my "collection point", and Sydney for the rest. After about two weeks I had over 70 AK's collected at each! The computer also hides a LOT of AK's at Diampnd Harbor and elsewhere in eastern India, and they are not there on turn 1 but show up pretty quickly. You really need to get them to SF and Karachi, so you can start your system up....they do nothing for you sitting in Syndey or the DEI...

The other complicating thing is efficiently using your AP's mixed with AK's to move air units and ground units from SF to wherever they need to go. At the start, they are scattered all over the West Coast, so I march them all the SF. In India, I chose to empty out most non-base force units and march them along rail lines to the "front" in eastern India. Took about three weeks for all of them to get where I wanted them, but now they are resting up and digging in for the inevitable Japanese assault on Burma.

I'm also surprised at how quick the Japanese are diving south. Dec 30 and already they're at Lae and moving into the northern Solomons, and have taken all the Gilberts....

Yep, doing 15 as Allies. Seems the common starting point for a newbie. I noticed the ships scattered all over too and some in mid ocean. Spent my first 1.5 hours with the game just sorting out everything in the West Coast area and Pearl and learning and all. I suspect it will all go quicker soon. I want to build up relay points like Canton, Suva, etc.. and start feeding to NZ and OZ at some point. Damn overwhelming but it doens't get anybody better then this!

Gotta watch spoilage. Need to use a LARGE base for a "relay" point. I wouldn't even try dumping 500,000 on Suva, best to ship to New Zealand or direct, all the way to Sydney or Melbourne and then use smaller TF's to move the big dumps there, foward.

I've discovered that TK's are a problem, because they don't seem to have the range to get all the way to Oz on their own, from the West Coast. IT is a particular problem when they are carrying oil (if fuel they seem to suck their own fuel cargo for their own use as they go???) I guess I need to set up Pago-Pago or Suva with some sizeable fuel, first, then send the TK's there to top off (using the Do Not Unload option so they don't unload their fuel or oil there), top them off and then head them to OZ, or wherever.

Good points!

That last option also keeps those TF's well out of range of those damned G4's, which I am sure will start eventually showing up on Tarawa or such....

MCKClaudi -> RE: Free Fuel/Supplies for Allies (7/6/2004 7:31:03 PM)

I use the big huge oilers (20500) as mobile tankstations. Always try to have one docked at Canton or Palmyra. You avoid spoilage that way to.

Karachi, Bombay, United States, San Francisco, Los Angeles, Chengtu, Chungking, Sining, Lanchow, and Irkutsk are the bases.

If you are referring to locations of free supplies and fuel you need to add Yenen (Wrong city ?) to the list. As if the road is clear between it and Rangoon it gets 500 free supply per day...

Xargun -> RE: Free Fuel/Supplies for Allies (7/7/2004 12:08:53 AM)

Its not Yenen.... which I captured... Its Yunan - but either way I have troops blockading Rangoon so he doesn't get anything anyways...

If you apture a city that makes free supplies each day do you get them or does it just stop?

One tip I've learned through experience is to leave one or two AK's in or near Singapore. When the Japanese attacked me in Kuala Lumpur I had over 7,000 recourses stockpiled there. I wanted them to go to Singapore so I could unload 7,000 oil and allow my HI to produce 300 supplies a day at the base until these stockpiles got used up/destroyed. But without an AK to assign to recourse loading in Singapore, the stockpiles just sat there in Kuala Lumpur and were captured by Japan. [:@]

So leave a few of your 4500 ton AK's and some 9000 ton tankers around key battle areas to get recourses to move according to tactical needs. You usually only have a day or two by the time the need makes itself apparent, so the ships need to be very close by.

I've notice oil stockpiles itself at Mandalay when produced originally, but moves to Rangoon as soon as a tanker begins loading up there, so I assume this will work for recourses as well.

They stop being generated.

[:(] What ever happened to slave labor? You'd think they'd generate at least 1/2 value.

Thats on Civ3 [:D]

They aren't generated there - they are free due to the whole Burma Road thing.
