Akmatov -> Speed vs Visability Question (7/7/2004 12:59:25 AM)

It seems impossible to ease a unit into enemy line of sight and not be sighted and fired upon, or am I missing something. Hopefully, I'm missing something.

Obviously moving at high speed across the field of view of an enemy unit in position to observe your motion is likely to result in your being seen. However, what about where your unit moves a considerable distance (high speed), but does so out of sight to any enemy unit. However, it then crests a ridge and moves one hex in sight of an enemy unit.

Does this get processed for sighting as having moved one hex (the distance moved in sight of the enemy) or as having move 15 hexs (the total movement)?

I think the system works fine, just think about it, if a group of 7 soldiers are moving @ around 9mph and your a MG gunner sitting there looking off into that area, you definately WOULD notice them.

True, but would he see them if there were only in his LOS for 50 meters? AND, they always get sighted when they only move 50 meters total. Surely they could creep along on their bellies under bushes and not get noticed, at least occasionally?

They do 'creep', if you move them 1 hex per turn. Move the maximum amount and their speed will be maximum possible. Thus they do always 'run' that final hex, no matter if it is the only one with possible los.
Stop them before they crest the hill and move that final hex next turn and you'll notice they won't be spotted as often.

thanks, I thought I had done that; but I'll try again. What you say makes sense.[:)]
