The reason the opfire frequency or special opfire was put into the game was so people couldn't force units to use up all their fires and so become defenseless.
Some people didn't like the special opfire because it presented too many bizarre results such as a tank being able to fire at many many targets coming from all directions so that they could spin like a top and make a totally unrealistic number of shots. Also the units of the moving player were not given this special opfire whether they moved or not, a very illogical situation. Some of us asked that a button be included to enable us to adjust opfire frequency to our liking so we could eliminate this gamey aspect of opfire. So Matrix included the opfire frequency button. We asked they enable us to turn it all the way down to zero. Here is their reply:
"We feel no special opfire makes the game too predicable. If you want a game with predicable combat results, there are alternatives that have highly predicable combat results (SPWW2). Special opfire prevents gamey play and is an integral part of the game design. SP:WaW is done and no new features or substantive changes will be made. Paul"
How SPWW2 is predictable is beyond me but the Camo Group and the Matrix people had a falling out of egos and any opportunity at poking the other is taken. In any event, at least we got them to reduce it to 30%, a major victory in the world of coaxing egos to do something at ones request.
Cheers, Del
